I don't think anything is broken.... just bad design. I have the MS Surface Pro 2, and the problem of spontaneous rebooting has subsided, but like you, when I barely move the MS SP2 with keyboard attached, I get a reboot. Even just to scoot it over sometimes. that's irritating.
Surface Pro 1 on Windows 8.1 reboots when Type Cover 2 is removed
I just noticed this recently but sometimes I get a Random reboot not even doing anything particular. I also noticed twice that when I attached my Type Cover 2 it reboots. Example I attached it and the SURFACE logo shows and it boots up.
Anyone else experiencing this.?

2014-05-24T13:12:02+00:00 I have Surface Pro 1 with Type one cover, all updates current. Ocassionally my Surface reboots spontanously. I noticed it happens when the cover is flipped back and I lift he whole thing, like I was on Skype talking to my brother and wanted him to see something - I lifted the computer from my lap and it rebooted right then. Called him back did the same thing. I worry that maybe because I flip the keyboard back often it is breaking at the joint?

2014-05-15T16:43:19+00:00 I havn't had this occur for me for quite some time.
My surface pro (1) with typecover (1), had the exact same issue after upgrading it to windows 8.1.
It never had such issues before windows 8.1
There is a reset option on the first surface pro where you can downgrade to windows 8. If you do that it won't happen again till you upgrade to 8.1
It appears that 5 months of this issue, microsoft still hasn't figured out whats wrong. And they are even forcing you to upgrade to 8.1 or you don't get security updates anymore.
Shortest lived OS ever :P Why they didn't just make 8.1 a service pack ... still blows my mind.

We're continuing to investigate the issue of the Surface Pro restarting when the cover is removed and driving for resolution.
