Surface Pro 1 on Windows 8.1 reboots when Type Cover 2 is removed

I just noticed this recently but sometimes I get a Random reboot not even doing anything particular. I also noticed twice that when I attached my Type Cover 2 it reboots.  Example I attached it and the SURFACE logo shows and it boots up.

Anyone else experiencing this.?

Surface | Surface Pro | USB-C

My understanding is the Type Cover 1 and 2 are just USB connections to the keyboard.  For mine, it was constantly rebooting and I pinned it down to when I flip the type cover back behind the tablet. That is when the random reboots happen.  If I leave the keyboard out normal or disconnect it when just wanting to use it as a tablet it has not rebooted once.  About 4 months worth of time without a single reboot as long as I follow that method. Never flip it back behind the tablet - disconnect if needed.  Use the keyboard normally and no reboots.  Obviously this should be fixed.  However, I'm pretty sure the problem is related to the USB driver or hardware when it is turning on or off the keyboard.

That's exactly what I see in the trace as well using BlueScreenView.

Any software type at Microsoft could see the error if they invested a few minutes into the issue.

Happens on mine with a Type Cover 1 (the original one), so it's not specific to the Type Cover 2.

im having this exact issue - though i wonder if the type cover 2 is faulty...

if i sit the surface upright with the kickstand extended and the type cover out infront.... its fine...

as soon as i hold the top left of the type cover down, and pull the top left of the surface away to separate the two devices... BAM, surface restarts....

very frustrating..... i dont even have to separate the devices - i feel like the type cover is shorting the surface somehow

I lost another project. The shutdown even corrupted my file. I'm getting a refund. I'm so terribly angry.

    Thanks for nothing, Microsoft.
