Surface Pro 1 on Windows 8.1 reboots when Type Cover 2 is removed

I just noticed this recently but sometimes I get a Random reboot not even doing anything particular. I also noticed twice that when I attached my Type Cover 2 it reboots.  Example I attached it and the SURFACE logo shows and it boots up.

Anyone else experiencing this.?

My issues seem to only be getting worse. I thought the February firmware update would finally be the fix, but alas it was not. Now I'm experiencing an issue where the keyboard (type 1) is connected but not fully detected, so when I start my SP1, it's stuck at the login screen. I can't type anything with the keyboard, but I also can't get the onscreen keyboard to come up, suggesting that it knows the type1 is connected. The only way to fix this is to restart the SP1 several times, or disconnect and reattach the keyboard repeatedly. It's worth noting that simply disconnecting the keyboard won't allow me to access the on screen keyboard, as if the keyboard driver is just frozen or something. I'm also still experiencing all the random reboots from before.

It is simply astounding that Microsoft obviously introduced this killer bug with the 8.1 update, and somehow can't figure out how to reverse it after all this time, and all these angry customers.

Same config as OP, same problem.

Randomly reboots. Sometimes coincides with detaching type cover (and inevitably moving the thing in space). Today it's happened twice. Just now I was reading an article on Firefox when it happened. Then searched for the issue and found this thread. At least I'm not insane and imagining it.

    Greetings,

Please download and install all February Firmware updates. If your Surface Pro (original), is still restarting when the cover is removed, please post and let us know.

Regarding the random restarts, please create a new thread so the community can see it and participate.

This is me letting you know, the February updates have increased the frequency of the reboot issue randomly happening when disconnecting / reconnecting the cover (which is a must as the cover becomes unresponsive when flipped to the back without reconnecting the cover).

Additionally, I am still having random reboots during wakeup / locking.

    Lloyd
