I just noticed this recently but sometimes I get a Random reboot not even doing anything particular. I also noticed twice that when I attached my Type Cover 2 it reboots. Example I attached it and the SURFACE logo shows and it boots up.
Anyone else experiencing this.?

Is there still no official word from Microsoft regarding this topic? This is weak since there are some customers who still have those issues (like me).
And since I was able to reproduce these shutdowns in a store with different Surfaces, I think, that this is a bigger issue :(.
I've been having the issue with my surface plugged in at full power. I am 99% sure it is a software issue. I think the fix may be to do a fresh install to windows 8.0. Is anyone here having the issue without the 8.1 "upgrade"?

My advice is to try it. If more then one person can reproduce the issue then we have a confirmed issue and something Microsoft can diagnose.
- Drain the battery to say 30%
- Unplug type 2 cover
- Plugin type 2 cover
Surface should power down immediately.
Try power up surface by pressing power button (without power plugged in). It shouldn't work.
Plug power in.
Power up surface by pressing power button.
It should work.
There may be differences with different models and keyboards. I can only go by what I use (surface pro 2 and type 2 cover).
I had one instance where the reboot cause my surface not to want to power on. It flashed the low battery sign at me, but I knew there was still plenty of battery left. Push and hold the power button and the volume up button and it will reset so you can power on from battery. I wasn't near a plug at the time.

I tried out different Surface Pros with different Touch Covers in a store. Every device had the problem and every device was plugged in.
So I can now reproduce this 100% even at 75% battery.
Sometimes it requires that the keyboard is unplugged and plugged in multiple times before it powers down (not REBOOT).
What's interesting I cannot reproduce it if the Surface is running on mains power.
I will be taking this into a store on Tuesday to demonstrate.
