Surface Pro 1 on Windows 8.1 reboots when Type Cover 2 is removed

I just noticed this recently but sometimes I get a Random reboot not even doing anything particular. I also noticed twice that when I attached my Type Cover 2 it reboots.  Example I attached it and the SURFACE logo shows and it boots up.

Anyone else experiencing this.?

Well I think I'm done with Microsoft. I will hand this surface down the family line once I'm ready for my next upgrade and get the latest tablet from another company.  This is the response I received yesterday:

    Hello (my name),

I took a look at the multiple email threads you've sent us, and I'm unable to pinpoint one reason as to why your device isn't working correctly.  With all the firmware issues and the sizzling sound it's now making I would set up a repair to get the device exchanged.  If you're still experiencing any issues please reply to this email and I'll keep this ticket opened.  You can create a repair at myservice.surface.com

If you have any questions or concerns please reply to this email.

    Thank you

    Matt

Well guess what I am unable to do a ticket from the support site.  I emailed him back telling him this. Mind you my warranty expires next month. I guess I'm stuck with this device. By the time they reach me again the time will be up.  I tried to be patient but this is ridiculous.

I will be monitoring the Lenovo Yoga line and Dell Venue's.  It is really sad.

Microsoft Support apparently Failed me and all the confidence I had in them.  If the device worked properly it would be awesome but you have to take care of those who spent over a $1000 for your items and accessories which those are $100+ as well.

I don't see the firmware update yet.  But I did uninstall and reinstall KB2917993 and that seems to have resolved the problem for me.  I can now rotate and not have the screen go black.  I'm wondering of the "cumulative" update was reverting something from that install.

Surface Pro firmware update should now be available.  It fixes the following:

    January 15 release

    Windows 8.1 updates:

    • Surface Type Cover 2 firmware
      • These updates improve the experience of using a second generation Surface Cover on your first generation Surface Pro running Windows 8.1, including touchpad performance and overall product stability.
    • Surface Touch Cover 2 firmware
      • These updates improve the experience of using a second generation Surface Cover on your first generation Surface Pro running Windows 8.1, including touchpad performance and overall product stability.
    • Updated Wi-Fi and Bluetooth® driver now supports additional Miracast functionality and increased Wi-Fi stability.

I've learned to reproduce this almost at will.  The issue seems to be that if the tablet needs to rotate the screen coming out of sleep, with or without the keyboard attached, it will likely black screen needing power cycling, or reboot spontaneously.  I've reproduced this several times now.

I did the "load default secure boot keys" fix and it didn't fix anything at all. Using a SP1 Pro with a Type Cover 1. I've had 2 restarts in 10 minutes so far this morning. What a piece of junk the Surface Pro turned out to be. Very disappointing.
