surface book battery drain while shut down

Split from this thread.

I have been noticing that when I shutdown my surface book, when I power it on the next day the battery has drained some. If I leave it off for a couple of days it will drain down from 100% to around 85% or lower.

I disabled fast startup... and then just decided to disable hibernation altogether. That didn't help.

I have windows hello disabled, but that shouldn't matter anyway since I'm shutting it down, not sleeping.

Some searching and I found a general windows 10 issue with the "Intel Management Engine Interface" driver. Some say that v11 can cause this issue. One solution that I have seen suggested is to go into device manager and in the power management tab for this device uncheck the option that allows windows to power it down to save power. I tried that and it didn't help.

Others have suggested downgrading the driver from v11 to v9 or v10, but I don't know where to get v9 or v10 of this driver that is compatible with the surface book. Anyone know if one of the downloads on Intel's site would be compatible?

So, has anyone else noticed this issue and know of a fix?

My Surface Book (i7, GPU 512GB) has gone back and forth between sleeping and not sleeping as various updates have been applied.  Some updates fix the problem and then later another will break it again.  However, everything seems to be working perfectly since the Anniversary update.  I'm optimistic this might be the end of the issue.

I should add, though, that this doesn't prevent it from sometimes getting a little warm even when it's sleeping, nor from using up some of the battery while it's sleeping.  But I haven't seen it lose more than 6% of battery while sleeping since the update.  That's not a problem for me, especially if I'm getting background updates and backups and so on for that 6%.

I replied on July 12 that after applying all system upgrades and patches, the problem on my surface book is solved.  If you just bought yours you likely need to update it.  If that doesn't work ms support is aware of the problem and may be able to walk you through it.  Again, I have a surface book, not a surface pro.

I see this posting from Nov 15

i have just purchased a Surface Pro (August 16) and am having exactly the same issues.

I go start>power>shutdown. Wait for it to close down and hen shut the keyboard

I've noticed the back feels warm sometimes in my case and when I need it, 2 or 3 days later the battery is at 0%

one thing I can't see from the many replies to the original posting is a solution.

Has one been found since last year or is this a design flaw with the product?

I have same problem with my surface book ! I close it then (( sleep mode)) ! I found out that the battery drains from 100% to 80 % so that's not good for a company selling laptop with $2000 price ! So here what we need is our money back. They should give up and confess that Microsft still not able to fix it since 7 month !

Thank you so much for listening !

My SP4 is STILL draining while "Shut Down" via the proper shut down procedure. This is not acceptable and I am afraid it will cause the battery to die prematurely and that is definitely something I'm not interested in. Thanks for listening.

    EDIT: Windows Hello is disabled.
