Surface Pro 4 - Screen won't wake from sleep

I received my Surface Pro 4 today and it worked fine. I put it on "sleep" for awhile, came back and turned it on. Once again it worked fine. I made an error and instead of putting it on "sleep" I  hit the power button to turn it off when I finished. Now it won't come on at all. The screen stays dark. If I push the power button I can see lights under the keyboard keys, then if I hit the power switch again they go off. But nothing happens to the screen no matter what I do. Has anyone else suffered from this?

It works fine for me after the Anniversary Update to Windows 10 Pro (Version 1607). It no longer goes into a coma.

I just traveled all week. Put my Surface Pro 4 (SP4) to sleep 10 to 20 times each day, and currently my task manager shows the up time to be 7:21:35:21 - 7 days! It is actually working the way I expected it to when I bought it!

It was such a relief to not be scared to put it to sleep during meeting breaks to save battery when working with my Pen and OneNote. For the past 7 months I've had to have it on power when in meetings so that it wouldn't go into a coma. That was always so embarrassing.

You can update to the latest version of Windows 10 by opening Settings > Update & security > Windows Update, and selecting Check for updates.

I have read on another topic, and in power options and changed everything from sleep to hibernate, while it is not a fix, it is a viable workaround. I can now power up with all my work open, plus it saves more power and only takes a few seconds longer. I hope it helps.

This change can be made by clicking Notifications > All Settings > System > Power & sleep > Additional power settings > Choose what the power buttons do

Change all settings that say Sleep to Hibernate (6 total, 3 for On battery and 3 for Plugged in). It is a work around but only takes a few seconds longer for it to un-hibernate and you will not lose any unsaved work.

It appears the beta drivers helped the "display driver failed and has recovered" issue.

Not for me. The same display driver crash without recovering despite the lie "...and has recovered".

Also the same non-wakeup coma continues both from sleep and from hibernate despite numerous combinations of them & lid.

I am having the exact same problem. Mine is Surface Pro 4, i5, 256 SSD, 8 GB RAM. The device is one week old.

I have been experiencing this issue since 3 days ago. For me, this happens when the device is on the Sleep mode for more than approximately 20 to 30 minutes. The screen is not coming up upon return from the Sleep mode. You can tell the device is on, but the screen is not coming up, and the only work-around for me so far has been forced rebooting, which has caused to lose the unsaved data.

I had to reboot the device two times today in a meeting with my client.

Try the September driver. I haven't had 1 issue with sleep with it.
