Surface Pro 4 - Screen won't wake from sleep

I received my Surface Pro 4 today and it worked fine. I put it on "sleep" for awhile, came back and turned it on. Once again it worked fine. I made an error and instead of putting it on "sleep" I hit the power button to turn it off when I finished. Now it won't come on at all. The screen stays dark. If I push the power button I can see lights under the keyboard keys, then if I hit the power switch again they go off. But nothing happens to the screen no matter what I do. Has anyone else suffered from this?

It works fine for me after the Anniversary Update to Windows 10 Pro (Version 1607). It no longer goes into a coma.

I just traveled all week. Put my Surface Pro 4 (SP4) to sleep 10 to 20 times each day, and currently my task manager shows the up time to be 7:21:35:21 - 7 days! It is actually working the way I expected it to when I bought it!

It was such a relief to not be scared to put it to sleep during meeting breaks to save battery when working with my Pen and OneNote. For the past 7 months I've had to have it on power when in meetings so that it wouldn't go into a coma. That was always so embarrassing.

You can update to the latest version of Windows 10 by opening Settings > Update & security > Windows Update, and selecting Check for updates.

Doesn't this mean that the computer will be running when you hit sleep or close the cover? If so, this doesn't do me much good considering the Pro 4 churns through batteries and by the time I get from security to the gate I'll 50% power left. Not to mention it gets hot when putting it into a sleeve.

Here's the scary part, this happened (not as frequently) with my surface pro 3 as well. Part of the reason I got the 4 is that I figured "for sure" this is something they fixed.

Every time I need this thing to work, I'm SOL.

Work around:

Go to the start menu and select the power button and manually click sleep. Seems to work.

Issues:

- How did you put the device to sleep? Fold the keyboard up or push the power button.

- **How long was the device in Connected Standby - long enough to Hibernate?**Yes. The Sleep of Death only happens when the device is left for over 20mins.

- How did you first attempt to wake the device when waking failed? Unfold the keyboard, press the power button.

- What apps or services are running when the device sleeps, Windows Hello, others? In some instances there were no apps running.

- **Does disabling Windows Hello or other services or closing any particular apps before sleeping have any impact?**No - the sleep of death seems to happen regardless.

At first things seemed to be doing better after installing the beta driver. Then when trying to turn on the computer after sleeping for a couple of hours, the type cover wouldn't work and the computer screen was dim and wouldn't respond to changing the lighting setting. When I tried to restart, it wouldn't restart so I had to hold the power switch and volume up key for 20 seconds to get it going. The type cover would still not work after that so I had to remove it in settings. I then reverted back to the original driver, restarted, and was able to use the type cover after that.

This isn't worth it.
