Surface Pro 4 - Screen won't wake from sleep

I received my Surface Pro 4 today and it worked fine. I put it on "sleep" for awhile, came back and turned it on. Once again it worked fine. I made an error and instead of putting it on "sleep" I  hit the power button to turn it off when I finished. Now it won't come on at all. The screen stays dark. If I push the power button I can see lights under the keyboard keys, then if I hit the power switch again they go off. But nothing happens to the screen no matter what I do. Has anyone else suffered from this?

It works fine for me after the Anniversary Update to Windows 10 Pro (Version 1607). It no longer goes into a coma.

I just traveled all week. Put my Surface Pro 4 (SP4) to sleep 10 to 20 times each day, and currently my task manager shows the up time to be 7:21:35:21 - 7 days! It is actually working the way I expected it to when I bought it!

It was such a relief to not be scared to put it to sleep during meeting breaks to save battery when working with my Pen and OneNote. For the past 7 months I've had to have it on power when in meetings so that it wouldn't go into a coma. That was always so embarrassing.

You can update to the latest version of Windows 10 by opening Settings > Update & security > Windows Update, and selecting Check for updates.

In the past, running the updates has undone whatever manual Intel install I've done.

On another note, I updated everything with the 2/17 updates, had to restart twice, went for coffee after all of the restarts were done, came back, and the screen wouldn't wake from sleep for the first time in weeks *sigh*. I gave it the ole force shutdown, and have my fingers crossed that this was just a transient issue and that the new update really will fix things going forward.

For those of us who manually installed the driver from intel (which helped me), do we need to "undo" that.  What's the correct driver number that you are installing in this update?

    Let's see if this helps.

    Moderator Edit 04/20/2016:

Thanks for sharing your experiences with the recent, 4/19/2016, Surface updates.  Please continue to provide this feedback - let us know if the updates helped address your concerns and challenges with waking your Surface.

    Hi All,

We released an update on 2/17/2016 that addresses this issue.

We recommend that you install this update to keep your Surface performing its best. You can get updates now by checking Settings> Update & security> Windows Update.

To confirm the updates are installed, check Settings> Update & security> Windows Update> Advanced options> View your update history.  If you locate updates with the status of "Requires restart to finish installing", please Restart (don't Shutdown) your Surface.

Example of update with status "Requires a restart to finish installing."

In certain instances the 1/27/2016 update did not install completely and is now causing the 2/17/2016 update to fail.  To confirm the 2/17/2016 update successfully and completely installed, and to repair it if it did not please follow these steps.

    1.  Enter the words Device Manager into the search box on the taskbar, then select Device Manager from the list of results.

    2.  Expand the Firmware section.

        a. If the items here do not have exclamation marks, the 2/17/2016 update is properly installed.

        b. If the items here have an exclamation mark (see image below), please manually reinstall the 2/17/2016 update.

    Manually Install 2/17/2016 Surface Updates

    1.  Perform a 2-button-shutdown as described in solution 3, here.

    2.  Download the MSI package for Surface Pro 4.

    3.  In Device Manager, double-click the item under Firmware that has an exclamation mark, select the Driver tab, and then select Uninstall. Do this for all items under Firmware that have an exclamation mark.

    4.  Open and run the MSI setup package that you downloaded.

    5.  Restart your Surface (do not shutdown).

Please let us know your experience after following the above steps to take and/or confirm all updates are successfully installed.

    Thanks,

    Josh

Interesting.  I've never had problems waking it up with any other apps open.  3 straight days I had VM Ware, several Excel documents, Word docs, Outlook, SQL Studio and 4-5 other apps and it always wakes up.  I only have the problem with browsers open.
