Double tap to left click and drag on trackpad

Hello, I was trying to find a way to click and drag by using the Type Cover 2 trackpad without keeping the left mouse button pressed. Most touchpads nowadays register a rapid double click as a "left click and drag" command and, according to the documentation on Microsoft's website, the Type Cover 2 should as well. However, I tried to use the feature both in Desktop programs and UI apps with no success. How to left click and drag without keeping the trackpad's left mouse button pressed?

Edit: called the customer service, and I was told that the team is aware of the issue and that a fix is planned.

With 8.1 update 1, type/touch cover 2 can now perform double tap-drag. All hail lord Microsoft.

Greetings all,

The “Tap, then tap and slide one finger in any direction"  gesture to perform a “left-click and drag” is not supported in Windows 8.1 for precision touchpads such as Touch Cover 2 and Type Cover 2.

The “left-click and drag” function can be performed on Touch Cover 2 and Type Cover 2 by holding the left touchpad button down and then sliding a finger in any direction.

We’ll be updating the inaccurate information in Touchpad: A built-in mouse.

    Add me to the list as well, Such a great product but such a crucial flaw. it makes me ask the question. Do the teams building and prototyping the products actually test them. i found the flaw with in 2 min of using it and thought it was a configuration thing... regardless - i would like an update and if we need new kboards there should be a recall/swap out/.. please let me know when any of the above become available

    Dear Microsoft Representatives,

    Unfortunately, this issue is not resolved yet.

    I have the Windows 8.1 Update 1 on my 512GB Surface Pro 2 (which I got recently as I didn't want the Pro 3 due to the bigger size and silver color; but since day one, I have owned all of Surface RT, 128GB Pro 1, 256GB Pro 2, and now 512GB Pro 2), and the double-tap-and-drag functionality is still not working with the Type 2 Cover.

    I believe this is because of what Evecoder above described, and a few others have reported: I have my "When I close the lid" power option set to "Do nothing" if plugged in, since I don't want the background operations to stop with the device getting put in Sleep (e.g. if OneDrive is transferring some big files, etc.) As you might be able to relate, I can't be putting the device to sleep or deattaching and reattaching the keyboard to get it to work every time, which are poor workarounds for a premium device/keyboard with a high-end price.

    The double-tap-and-drag feature is not only for dragging things around, but also selecting text, scrolling, etc., so it is essential that it works.

    I'd like to ask what would be the plan and timeframe to get this fixed. Please let me know if I can provide additional information.

    the bug still not fixed for surface RT

    thought the feature works fine with cover 2 on a Surface 2 and on a surface 3 Pro !!
