My Surface Book 2 i7 256gb is experiencing coil whine.

Is there anyway to get around this?

Definitely notice coil whine whenever my SB2 is plugged into charging and on high performance mode. I am concerned about this issue as I was hoping issues like these didn't come with such a high price tag.

Update 8/1/2018:

Thank you for your feedback. We have published a set of drivers and system updates which helps mitigate this issue. This is now available in Windows Update.

We recommend that you install the latest updates to keep your Surface performing its best. You can get updates now by checking Settings > Update & Security > Windows Update.

As a temporary workaround, we suggest that when your Surface is plugged into the power supply, click on the battery icon in the Windows taskbar and set the Power Mode slider to either “Recommended” or “Better performance.”

    IMHO the Problem is hardware related and cannot be fixed. 

    Yes the whine still persists but without the fluctuations and throtteling that comes with the conected standby, its barely audible.

    However i realized that the sound itself stems from the Tablet and does also exist in every mode. you just have to put your ear on the back. I will be returning my 3rd surface book today and am still praying to get one that doesnt whine.

    But let me be clear, the noise DOES NOT SEEM TO BE COMMING FROM THE BASE. it stems from the tablet. the Center of it too. My Tablet does make a noise.... no matter what. on battery with tablet detached its just barely audible.

    I love the product but i will be doing the switcharoo only once more.

    Are you talking about the 13 inch version?

    I noticed the same with the solution from reddit. But the coil whine was still too loud for me.

    I have never tried deactivating connected standby, so do you say if you do both things (the reddit solution & deactivating connected standy) it gets less audible than just with the reddit solution?

    Thanx, I dont have a surface book 2 atm (got a refund for mine), but thinking about buying it again as soon as it can be fixed.

    If anyone is wondering why there are not public aknowledegments of this...

    The Answer is to deactivate connected Standby... a brand new "superfeature"...

    Don't get me wrong the coil whine is still there, but at least for me, its only audible when i put my ear at the back of the machine. For me this is more the "is the highend laptop in my bag really turned of now? I dont know mode" so i do not have any pain deactivating it. 

    However i will still get my fourth machine to test this further..

    i have now grabbed 3 different surface book 2 from Berlin

    All 15" i7 16gb 256GB.

    Serial number started with

    01660

    01664

    01663 

    All affected.

    Coil Whine IS PERMANENT on High performance mode + 100% Battery.

    Here is the funpart, there is a firmware update once you get one out of the box.

    it makes the problem so much worse.

    aaaaaaand now i we have the final coffin nail. For those of you affected, please detach the screen, set your mode to high performance  and listen on the back of your unit with your ear. The noise is permanent. You just cant hear that well... when the base it attached and the power connected it just reaches a level of annoyingness, but if your dog avoided you while working lately.... here is your why.
