Surface Pro 9 Screen Flickers/Scramble

Hello,

I am facing a very weird issue with my Surface Pro 9 Screen. I have been getting tiny flickering / screen scramble, extremely randomly, maybe once in 5-6 hours. I have tried contacting the support but I do not think I have been given any proper solution and it's annoying. Rather, I have been asked to do the impossible task of getting a video recording of this phenomena. I can't be staying without a device especially considering my workload as a graduate student and I have been consistently dealing with unreliability. And I also can not be dealing with this non sense of wasting my whole day recording the screen for a random lucky chance of observing the flicker.

Anyway, the issue is that I am worried about the long term health of my screen. As of now, there is no inconvenience caused by these flickers because they happen for about < 1s and once in 5-6 hours on average. But I am extremely worried about the long run. I don't want to be wasting my time sending this device for repairs for issues that should not have arise in the first place. Is there any reliable fix for this situation?

I have tried disabling or changing graphic settings and I have tried all the default steps of updating/reinstalling drivers. I have also kept my surface pro to default setting as much as possible without any modification.

I'd also like to know if it's just possible to get this device replaced? I am still under 1 month period from the date of arrival of this product. Although, I am unable to see any return option which is also distressing me.

Overall, I am extremely worried about how it will pan out in the long run. I absolutely do not want to be wasting my time over this. Please help.

    It is possibly a hardware problem but it seems rather commomplace, and turning off panel self refresh seems to cure it.

    Could be some bad ram in the panel's internal frame buffer, it could also be a software problem that Microsoft inadvertantly introduced.

    I bought my Surface Pro 9 second hand, but in an unopened box, it has always done this, but having no warranty I was forced to experiment, and from years of building PC's, one of the best ways to tackle graphics problems was to install a new graphics driver, after that, change one setting at a time and monitor has always been the way to diagnose problems.

    I don't know what causes it and it is really on Microsoft to figure it out, a recall on affected units would be the right thing to do if it is hardwear related.

    Isn't this considered a hardware issue?

    I mean, you are disabling or blocking a feature on your CPU that was intended to work. future updates won't fix it

    Edit: i saw a thread in Reddit, people reported the same issue and some of them say that they fixed using

    "Install Intel Driver and Support Assistant. It will install the latest Xe drivers" i will include the link below for future references

    I think the issue is panel self refresh or maybe a lack of it on the display, disabling this was the key to getting rid of the black glitches when playing video.

    Yes, disabling the VESA Adaptive sync did reduce the issue but not resolve it.

    Hello rob, thank for the prompt response.

    i disabled the adaptive sync. i will monitor the SP9 performance.

    Edit: I've disabled the adaptive sync. however, i got the flicker issue but a longer periods. i will try the solution below.

    Also, i would like to add one more thing to the issue, not sure if everyone noticed. but when your SP9 is connected to the charger you won't see the flickering issue. not sure why

    if the issue did not get resolved i will follow the remaining steps and disable the panel self refresh.
