I just solved the Windows 10 Update bug! Please check out the following: https://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/surface/forum/surfpro4-surfupdate/the-new-windows-10-update-and-maybe-the-firmware/11f071f9-c085-4a5a-9af8-a7a5d3fd3649?tm=1571916048716
Surface Pro 4 type cover suddenly not working.
I don't know what happened. I turned my Surface Pro 4 on the other day and the type cover is dead. No lights. No response. No indication that it's working at all. I rarely take my surface anywhere.
This started on July 9th 2018. My system information is below. I've gone through all of the steps in the "Troubleshoot your Surface Type Cover or keyboard" page. I've tried to manually download and install the latest firmware and drivers from the "Download firmware and drivers for surface" page. I picked SurfacePro4_Win10_16299_1801701_1.msi. My device manager does not show the "Surface Touch Cover Filter Device" under keyboards or anywhere. It only shows the HID keyboard and cannot detect my type cover. The type cover is completely unresponsive. Also, my windows updates are completely up to date. I've provided the links to the troubleshooting pages I used below.

2019-10-23T20:08:49+00:00 I do not have much hope of Microsoft correcting the issue. I do not think they know what it is.
At the Microsoft store, the agent spent about 2 hours trying to fix it. They only solution they could offer that would allow me to continue to use my computer, was to purchase an aftermarket (third-party) bluetooth key board.
An example is here: https://www.amazon.com/MoKo-Microsoft-Lightweight-Bluetooth-Rechargeable/dp/B017TU3DVQ
They did give me a discount on purchasing a new unit. I opted for purchasing a new unit, since I already owned all of the accessories.

2019-10-23T16:42:50+00:00 Same situation.
My Type Cover died after windows update last week, and i saw similar reports since 2017. So Microsoft official updates have been bricking users expensive devices for the last two years with no solution whatsoever.
I live in Argentina so official support here is non existant.

2019-10-23T16:41:17+00:00 The same issue happened to me from August 2019, and this issue happened again and again. Unfortunately, in my local area, we don't have any Microsoft store, and nobody I know has surface pro, so I don't know for sure it was wrong with my type cover or my surface body itself. But I have thought that this issue may be a software issue, the window update. I hope they will release somethings helpful to solve this issue asap. After paying a bunch of money for sp4 and after 2 years using, this problem happened made me feel very disappointed in Microsoft.
