TURN COMPUTER OFF!
REMOVE TYPE COVER!
Get some Denatured Alcohol or Wood Alcohol (Local Hardware Store paint section)
APPLY ALCOHOL TO Q-TIP AND RUB ON METAL TABS BALLS ON TYPE COVER AND INDENTION AREA WHERE TYPE COVER CONNECTS TO SP4.
ALLOW TO DRY 2-3 minutes and connect and restart computor!
I don't know what happened. I turned my Surface Pro 4 on the other day and the type cover is dead. No lights. No response. No indication that it's working at all. I rarely take my surface anywhere.
This started on July 9th 2018. My system information is below. I've gone through all of the steps in the "Troubleshoot your Surface Type Cover or keyboard" page. I've tried to manually download and install the latest firmware and drivers from the "Download firmware and drivers for surface" page. I picked SurfacePro4_Win10_16299_1801701_1.msi. My device manager does not show the "Surface Touch Cover Filter Device" under keyboards or anywhere. It only shows the HID keyboard and cannot detect my type cover. The type cover is completely unresponsive. Also, my windows updates are completely up to date. I've provided the links to the troubleshooting pages I used below.

2019-08-29T06:27:10+00:00 Hi,
Having the same problems since early August 2019.
NO toubleshooting advice has worked.
When I try your method, J.Jong, at step j to k) the surface type-cover filter device doesn't show up.
I suspect I'll have to ditch Microsoft forever like many others.
Many thanks.

2019-08-28T07:38:31+00:00 Surface Type Cover issue
Just had one SF4 with this issue, and solved it by holding volume up and power on for at least 15 secs till it started again. Restarted and it works again
