I'm going to either stir this up some more or put this to rest but here are my findings as of my latest round. First, when I'm at my desk, I use my Surface with a Tripp-Lite power bar for a faster, hardwired internet connection and Logitech keyboard and mouse. When I'm in my recliner or roaming, I use the standard cover/keyboard and the flexible Microsoft mouse. I used to use quite a bit of ancillary software to make sure that everything was up to date, blah, blah, blah. I've gotten very tired of finger pointing, especially when all of it seems to be contradicted and the assumption all purchased software has no problems. On my latest rebuild to v1903, I wiped the hard drive and just used the Microsoft mouse and keyboard until I had Windows completely up to date. Then I installed my other keyboard/mouse and printers and the software I needed (Office, maps, audio editing, etc) but no system checking software. So far, everything is hanging together with no crashes from seemingly out of nowhere. My experience before I retired was as an applications programmer (tailoring Access built stand-alones) for clients so I'm not a newbie. I've been in the business since MS-DOS and Widows 3.0. Enough memory lane. Just save your files, wipe your computer and start from scratch. Don't assume all tools are crash tested and only do what they claim. Proof your installations and do plenty of restarts to make sure things work when resident and not just in memory.
Best Wishes,
