Surface Pro 4 type cover suddenly not working.

I don't know what happened. I turned my Surface Pro 4 on the other day and the type cover is dead. No lights. No response. No indication that it's working at all.  I rarely take my surface anywhere.

This started on July 9th 2018. My system information is below. I've gone through all of the steps in the "Troubleshoot your Surface Type Cover or keyboard" page. I've tried to manually download and install the latest firmware and drivers from the "Download firmware and drivers for surface" page. I picked SurfacePro4_Win10_16299_1801701_1.msi. My device manager does not show the "Surface Touch Cover Filter Device" under keyboards or anywhere. It only shows the HID keyboard and cannot detect my type cover. The type cover is completely unresponsive. Also, my windows updates are completely up to date. I've provided the links to the troubleshooting pages I used below.

    Hi

I also tried no of ways to solve (including clean install) but One simple trick worked for me, you can also try. Remove the keyboard then tilt the screen to 90 deg & then bring to original position. Re connect the keyboard to surface pro. keyboard will start work.

    Regards

Not only did my keyboard quit again, my fix, and the Jack Daniels, aren't working either.  I can't even go back to a partial update that got stopped and restarted or an unintentional disconnect or anything out of the ordinary.  The keyboard just topped working.  The Surface notices when it's disconnected and reconnected but, it just doesn't work, neither the keys or the touchpad.  I can accept the fact when I do something stupid and it's my fault but, this one belongs to the AI (absolute ignorance) living inside this machine.

I'm sorry to hear that your fix didn't last.  It'd be nice to have someone have a permanent recovery.  My keyboard isn't detected in anybway whatsoever.  Hence my deleted drivers never returning after reboots or having the keyboard removed then attached again.  It would be nice to be able to use my SP4 with my type cover the way it was intended.  It'd also be nice to have a way to wipe and reflash the firmware fron scratch from a USB stick or microsd card to see if that resolves it

I'm in for it also - how can they release firmware when it is clearly not Fit For Purpose - UK Consumer Rights Act 2015.

Tried the procedure today and lo and behold the keyboard started to work. The Jack Daniels really helps but I wish some of the Microsoft Developers would earn their corn and resolve this really flakey firmware. Many thanks for the help ... not sure how long it will lst before it (mysteriously and intermittantly) fails again. Paul
