Surface Pro 4 type cover suddenly not working.

I don't know what happened. I turned my Surface Pro 4 on the other day and the type cover is dead. No lights. No response. No indication that it's working at all.  I rarely take my surface anywhere.

This started on July 9th 2018. My system information is below. I've gone through all of the steps in the "Troubleshoot your Surface Type Cover or keyboard" page. I've tried to manually download and install the latest firmware and drivers from the "Download firmware and drivers for surface" page. I picked SurfacePro4_Win10_16299_1801701_1.msi. My device manager does not show the "Surface Touch Cover Filter Device" under keyboards or anywhere. It only shows the HID keyboard and cannot detect my type cover. The type cover is completely unresponsive. Also, my windows updates are completely up to date. I've provided the links to the troubleshooting pages I used below.

wow, I am getting everything happening today! And note I have not installed anything, however what was different was the power lead was not in overnight while the surface was off.

I think someone else made mention of something similar, I usually remove and replace the keyboard physically and then it works, this morning no matter how many times I tried it wouldn't recognise the keyboard until the power lead was in.  Further, I noticed that the lights under the keys of the keyboard would come on for like a second and go off, whereas when the keyboard is recognised the lights stay on for a lot longer.

ALSO, had this weird thing happen where mid sentence typing an email,  a window pops up saying autorotate on, and then I can't type anymore. I check autorotate lock is on in the actual settings, as opposed to the menu shortcut settings,  which it is, and then a few mins later I can start typing again. Bizarre.

Exactly my problem. Everything works except the typecover. Screen rotates smoothly, but no typecover driver in device manager and nothing can be done to make it appear there.

Did you run the windows update troubleshooter thats in the troubleshooting section of update and security? Maybe run that see if theres something it can do to allow uninstall/install

Tried that again, to no avail.

Thanks for the detailed procedure. Didn't work for me, perhaps because I kept encountering an error on two of the three updates I was trying to uninstall. So the two of them are still there. Windows would simply not uninstall them. So, back to square one.
