I don't know what happened. I turned my Surface Pro 4 on the other day and the type cover is dead. No lights. No response. No indication that it's working at all. I rarely take my surface anywhere.
This started on July 9th 2018. My system information is below. I've gone through all of the steps in the "Troubleshoot your Surface Type Cover or keyboard" page. I've tried to manually download and install the latest firmware and drivers from the "Download firmware and drivers for surface" page. I picked SurfacePro4_Win10_16299_1801701_1.msi. My device manager does not show the "Surface Touch Cover Filter Device" under keyboards or anywhere. It only shows the HID keyboard and cannot detect my type cover. The type cover is completely unresponsive. Also, my windows updates are completely up to date. I've provided the links to the troubleshooting pages I used below.

2019-04-18T23:25:53+00:00 Nope problem came as before, lost the keyboard use after leaving it for an hour and it went into tablet mode, and rebooting now it doesn't detect the keyboard.
I have to physically remove the keyboard, wait about 30secs and put back to get the use again.
Also had it go into tablet mode mid typing of a sentence which I have never seen before.
There is definitely some funky stuff going on, this is very inconsistent!

2019-04-18T22:35:14+00:00 I'm running 17763.437 but still have zero Type Cover functionality. The drivers don't exist for me in the Device Manager hidden or not. Scanning for new hardware finds nothing. It also doesn't work while in the UEFI so I'm pretty sure it's going to require a Firmware update rather then and OS update.
My Type Cover stopped working several months ago. (The rest of my sensors still seem to be working.) I've tried all the troubleshooting steps suggested by Microsoft and this forum thread with no luck. I even took it to my local Microsoft Store and the tech there couldn't resolve the problem either. Although we were able to confirm that the problem isn't with my Type Cover. He was aware of the problem and had seen this thread on the forums. I wasn't the first customer he saw with the problem. But said until Microsoft acknowledges the problem and or has a fix there is nothing he can do.
I also have the power drain issue. Completely shutdown, my surface will drain dead in just over 24 hours.

2019-04-18T21:33:37+00:00 Unfortunately, I suckered for the fast ring updates, and currently have 18362.53, with no option to roll back. At the moment I'm doing a "clean" install of Windows (something of an oxymoron by now), which I am confident will do nothing to resolve the problem.
Meantime, I've acquired an iPad Air, and it's a better tablet than the keyboard-less Surface. Maybe I'll get a keyboard for it too, since this Surface Pro 4 of mine appears to be a lost cause. I'll certainly be counseling others to avoid buying a new Surface at all costs.
