Surface Pro 4 type cover suddenly not working.

I don't know what happened. I turned my Surface Pro 4 on the other day and the type cover is dead. No lights. No response. No indication that it's working at all.  I rarely take my surface anywhere.

This started on July 9th 2018. My system information is below. I've gone through all of the steps in the "Troubleshoot your Surface Type Cover or keyboard" page. I've tried to manually download and install the latest firmware and drivers from the "Download firmware and drivers for surface" page. I picked SurfacePro4_Win10_16299_1801701_1.msi. My device manager does not show the "Surface Touch Cover Filter Device" under keyboards or anywhere. It only shows the HID keyboard and cannot detect my type cover. The type cover is completely unresponsive. Also, my windows updates are completely up to date. I've provided the links to the troubleshooting pages I used below.

I do agree with you that MS has to solve the problem.

I yhink its a hardware problem rather then software one.

My SP4 works with no problem since I disconnected the typecover and the SP4 itself from the electricity charger .

( I left it disconnected overnight).

I thought of buying a new type cover incase.... , but as I figured it, its not the type cover problem but its the machine itself.

i tried your method but the downside is that you have to do this every time after you shut down the computer.  If i shut down and restart the computer even with the keyboard unplugged,  it won't work again...

I was thinking probably theres a specific time to leave the cover unplugged that will reset the port?

If we could have found this,  why the heck does MS can't even fix it? What are their techs doing??? If they don't fix this,  this will be my last MS product!

    My suggestion to you is:

    1. Disconnect the type cover from the machine.
    2. Disconnect the charger ( electricity) from the machine and leave it like this through the night.
    3. The day after connect the type cover and the electricity.
    4. I did it instead of hard/ force reset, and it worked.

Yes. Same for me. Nothing ever worked. Type cover is dead for this machine but it works for other SP4. I hate MS.

For all the people writing to me let me answer your queations by saying that nothing worked and the people at the Microsoft store said it was totally messed up and couldn’t be fixed. They said they get this a lot. Sometimes deleting and installing drivers works. Sometimes they have to do updates. But nothing fixed my computer.
