Battery drain issue

Hi all,

I just got a Surface Pro 7 and became a part of Surface community.

I have a quick question. How long does your Surface Pro 7 battery last?

I saw several posts and comments on the battery drain issue, but I'd like to know whether the battery problem is only to a specific model (i5 or i7), or just seen in some devices.

Because I feel my Surface Pro barely works for 4~5 hours (Wifi with google docs, or simple work, etc.) not up to 10.5 hours. On the ads, it clearly says 'All-day battery life' & up to 10.5 hours of typical device usage. I tried some recommendations from other posts, but so far no luck here. 

So, I'd like to know whether you have a similar problem or successfully managed the problem.

    This is not true. It has never been true. It is an out and out lie. 

    No prior review has found ten and a half hours of use. It takes 2 minutes to search Microsoft's own message boards to find that not a single customer has ever got 10.5 hours. Ever. Not once.

    The average time for reasonable use is about 5-5.5 hours.

    I contacted tech support to find out why mine imply lasts 4-5 hours. They couldn't figure it out (because it's a lie that it runs for ten hours) so they sent me a replacement. Guess what? 5 hours.

    I'll wait until the warranty is nearly gone and ask for another replacement and then probably sell it and get a HP X360 or Dell XPS 13 - unfortunately after a Surface RT, Surface Book 13 i5, Surface Book 13 i7 (amazing machine) and Surface Pro 2017 and Surface Pro 7, I'm going to stop buying Microsoft products. I just don't understand why they can't just advertise it as running for 6-7 hours so they don't end up with thousands of really annoyed customers like me writing posts like this. Honesty creates satisfaction, lies undermines it.

    I just got 'upgraded' from a SP3 to a SP7 and the 6 year old Surface Pro 3 still had at least twice the battery life.  Something doesn't seem correct with the Surface Pro 7:  we've been buying Surface Pro's for awhile now and the SP7 is the first time we've run into the battery falling substantially short of advertised.  I've never had to worry about tweaking settings or getting through a day with a Surface Pro. 

    Something isn't right.  I'm lucky to get 3 hours of video conferencing out of the new SP7 and have reinstalled the OS and firmware twice (nothing helped).

    No problem.  Found this as a recommendation for improving the surface pro's battery life. If files are corrupted they will increase battery drain.  I ran the program and it identified and fix several corrupted files.  Just passing along anything I locate on the internet that might be useful to people.

    Thanks for the quick reply and pointing out the info. I figured that would be the reasoning, but wondered if there were other points. 

    I ran the all on my unit... SFC found errors and corrected it on the first run and I ran it 2 mores times, and no issues. 

    As for DISM, all was perfect with no issues. 

    I did revert to an older Firmware, 17763 from MS Website, I see no difference at all. This just makes me think, they are not working on this issue. Nor have I found anything to say the contrary on the web or forums. 

    If they got 10.5 hrs on an i3 or i5 machine and they just can't get that with an i7 unit, MS should just come clean about this.

    As I mentioned before, we should be getting 6/7 hours out of the box, not 4/5 hrs max and thats on battery saver mode with everything shut off... ridiculous...

    I have users who have reported as low as 1 hour of battery life just through joining a zoom meeting.

    I know VC takes more power but on our other surface products and Dell devices this has not been an issue.

    I will attempt what has been suggested here but with slight hope

    Is there any fix being produced by Microsoft on this?

    Below is another Microsoft resource that might help improve people's battery life:

    System File Checker is a utility in Windows 10 that checks for problems with files on your computer. To run it, follow these steps:

    • Make sure you've installed the latest updates for Windows 10, and then restart your machine. To find out more, read Update Windows 10.
    • In the search box on the taskbar, type Command Prompt, and right-click or press and hold Command Prompt (Desktop app) from the list of results. Select Run as administrator, and then selectYes.
    • Type DISM.exe /Online /Cleanup-image /Restorehealth (note the space before each "/"), and then press Enter. (**Note:**This step may take a few minutes to start and up to 30 minutes to complete.)
    • After you see a message that says "The operation completed successfully," type sfc /scannow (note the space between "sfc" and "/") and press Enter.
    • After you see a message that says, "Verification 100% complete," type exit.
