Airpods Not connecting property to Surface Pro 10

I can pair my airpods with my Surface book 2 laptop, however they will rapidly connect and disconnect. And when it says "connected", no sound will play through the airpods. I've tried looking up a couple of fixes online but nothing is working.

I had the same exact problem with the Airpods Pro. My problem, as you mentioned, was the the rapid flickering back and forth between Paired andConnectedwith the Airpods ultimately never connecting. 

For me, the solution was to restart the whole process as follows:

  1. Place your Airpods or Airpods Pro back into the case > Close the case > Set the Airpods down. 
  2. On your Surface computer > Settings > Devices
  3. Select Add Bluetooth or other device > Bluetooth
  4. Pickup Airpods Case > Open Airpods case (Don't remove Airpods) > Press/Hold button on back of Airpods case until the Airpods are located by your Surface computer.

Your Surface computer should be able to at least find your Airpods by following the above steps.

*This is where I started having the problem stated at the beginning*

Solution:

  1. Go to settings > Type "Device Manager" in the search box.
  2. Once Device Manager is open, select Human Interface Devices
  3. Locate Bluetooth Low Energy GATT complaint HID device > Right-Click >Properties
  4. Select the 5th tab called Power Management
  5. Locate the checkbox "Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power" and UNCHECK this box!
  6. RESTART COMPUTER! *(This is what ultimately fixed my problem)*

I couldn't even find a "Bluetooth Low Energy GATT complaint HID device"  under Human Interface Devices, and any other Bluetooth options in the Device Manager didn't have a power management option. However, when I clicked on "Converted Portable Device Control device properties" under Human Interface Devices, I found the power management option and disabled it. My AirPods are working correctly now. I hope I'm not saying this too soon and that it's not just because I just updated my Surface, but I've had this problem for a long time and updates haven't fixed the problem before. Hopefully this will work for you. It's unfortunate we have to deep dive into our settings to get headphones to connect right.

    I completely agree. The last thing this terrible product did to me was it would not open PDF's. So I called them and they had to reconfigure the whole registry department on the blah blah blah, what ever. This happened during a work day. I have already been called out at work for having problems with the computer and having to hide out and fix them on a call. I have been put on probation because of this. I said it once and I will say it again this computer will get you fired. Do not wait for it to happen. Get rid of this awful trash. 

    I already got rid of mine. bough a computer that was half the price but same features and I have had no problems at all. Already hooke up about 7 devices on bluetooth and they work great and fast. 

    I have been appointed as kind of the "IT guy" in my agency where they asked me what computers should we get. Surface I'm letting you know that 12 people were ready to buy your $3,000 models. Your computer performed so bad that you lost out business. Add insult to injury I want you to know that we are a firm of engineers dealing exclusively with the production of the vaccine for COVID-19. We are in the news every week. you lost out because you are a terrible division on Microsoft. I hope people get a clue and completely abandon you as you have never supported your customers. 

    We are now strongly suggesting to contractors that show up with Surfaces to change them. We do not need your mediocrity in our ranks.

    This beautifully designed surface 2 is often purchased due to it’s visible features, but the app and windows 10 applications are the most frustrating ****. Can not connect earnpods, can not find where the idiots decided you should save your files, keyboard that has lightly printed symbols, the list goes on and on. Mi rosoft does not give a care. They obviously make their money elsewhere and they make no attempt to come up with the very obvious flaws.

    Everyone is along the right lines. I recently got my AirPod Pros to connect by Device Manager>Action>Devices and Printers

    Right click and go to sound settings.

    Right click on air pod pro stereo>connect
