Surface Laptop 3 (Intel) issue with DP1.2 monitor after installing January 2020 updates

Just a heads up and if someone from Microsoft sees this maybe talk to the Surface team:

After installing the January 2020 driver and firmware updates for Microsoft Surface Laptop 3 (Intel), my machine detected my external monitor (Dell U2715H) as 640x480.

The connection is made from SL3 -> Lenovo USB-C Dock Gen 2 -> Displayport to Mini Displayport on the Dell U2715h.

The problem went away after I disabled DP1.2 on the Dell Monitor and the screen was detected with its native resolution of 2560x1440 again.

    I also have the same issue with a newly bought (and updated) SL3. When I plug an USB-C to HDMI dongle in, a connection sound plays but it never recognizes the external display. The same dongle/external display works fine with my Surface Go. I've tried different HDMI cables and using an older version of the Iris graphics driver, but the same issue persisted. I hope Intel/Microsoft fixes this issue soon.

    Hi everyone, 

    I’ve had similar issues to all of you, more specifically JDBull7. I have a Surface Laptop 3 which i bought some time in October, a week after it came out. Anyway, i just purchased a USB-C to HDMI splitter adaptor as I have an HP 27er display and plan on getting another one. When I plugged in the adaptor, the laptop made a sound as if it recognized something plugged in, and my display would turn on- but no signal. I then went to the system settings to check the display, then hit detect, and windows told me it could not detect the display. After that, I checked “devices”, and ironically it said “HP 27er”, therefore it knew it was connected to a display.  I have tried multiple fixing measures, but they have not worked. This is frustrating, and i can’t really believe such an expensive device has such faults.

    If it was me and I really wanted a SL3, I'd return for full refund. Then
    repurchase. That would restart the return window clock. Rinse and repeat.

    Any updates??  It has been a month that this problem has been reported.

    Should I be returning the laptop soon since the return policy is almost up?

    Your monitors probably don't support 640 x480. My monitor at home does, my two monitors at work don't.

    Yes, I have tried that as well and that doesn't work for me either.  What Display Adapter do you have?  MY Surface Pro 7 has the Intel Iris Plus Graphics and I have tried numerous driver versions.  My current driver version is 26.20.100.7641 dated 12/21/2019.

    It's strange because whenever I pug in external monitors I hear the sounds like it's connecting but an image never comes up.
