How do I stop Copilot interfering with my documents? I removed the app but it is still there like an embedded virus. Word for Windows.

I did this "turning of Enable Copilot". It does not permanently turn it off. It only turns it off for the document you are working in at the time you disable it. As soon as you open a new document, it appears again. I sure hope MS fixes this quick as it is highly annoying and completely unnecessary. The default should be NO Copilot. Then users who want to use it can turn it on if they wish.

UPDATE: After disabling Copilot in a blank Word document, I completely closed the Word app and then re-opened it. I then opened a new blank word document and Copilot did not appear. So hopefully that is now a permanent shut down of something that was not needed in the first place.

It is permanent until you turn it back on, if you do.

It is also possible that Microsoft will switch it back on, but I doubt that will happen.

Apologies in advance if you've already tried/noticed this, but File > Options on my PC is WAY at the bottom/the last option (pardon the pun), as if they are trying to get us to stop disabling these *features* because there is obviously something IN IT FOR MS to keep it active.

When I do open Options, however, Copilot is nowhere to be found, so I'm still - short of disabling it COMPLETELY - just trying get it to stay OUT OF MY DOCS.

If only there were an AI app which the people at Microsoft could 'ask' regularly and get aggregated feedback about users views (good and bad) about their apps.

Perhaps ChatGPT or Gemini should be installed on their IT systems to help them out.

You're posting in a Word for Windows Community so the responses often do not apply to Word for Mac. Those instructions in particular are for the Windows version only. There is no Mac Word counterpart.
