OneDrive shared folders are now links, not folders! How do I fix this?

I have a number of folders shared with me by other OneDrive users. I've added these to My Files to appear alongside the folders on my OneDrive account. Up until yesterday, they appeared as folders on my PC, alongside the other folders which belong to my OneDrive account. Now these folders that are shared with me are appearing as shortcut links instead of folders on my PC.

This has happened to 3 different PCs which are all connected to the same OneDrive account. I have uninstalled OneDrive, cleared the cache, etc. and reinstalled on one PC, but the problem remains. I've removed shared folders, had them unshared by the owner, reshared back to me, and then added again to My Files, but this didn't work either.

How do I fix this?

Same Issue Had to move to DropBox. One Drive complete disaster and I am paying for it.

Not an easy normal fix, should work as advertised.

How the hell is this still an issue. Other accounts are have already had this issued resolved but mine still appears as links. Already tried the mentioned workaround and the shared files do not appear. Like what in the freaking hell is happening. I opened a support ticket and it just shows as closed/resolved after not answering?

I don't think it's a definitive thing. Out of the 4 family accounts, 2 have returned to "talking" to each other normally. The others did not. But it's really a hallucinatory mess, duplicate folders, meaningless synchronization. Today I try to clean the drive from duplicate folders and let's see what happens

That's not helpful at all. What is the current status? Is the problem being fixed or is the change intended?

Hey Microsoft, this is an absolute ****-show! The workarounds suggested in this thread are absurd. File Explorer had integrated seamlessly with OneDrive shared folders for years and now it doesn't. If you expect your hundreds of millions of users to "mount" a network drive located in some remote data center, it's time to bring the adults back in the room to solve this problem. I expect much more from your company. Please escalate this and resolve ASAP!
