OneDrive shared folders always open in webbrowser instead of windows explorer

Since this morning, folders that are shared with me in OneDrive are always opened in the web browser.

Previously, these same shared folders always opened in Windows Explorer.

The fact that the files are only available in the web browser leads to a strong reduction in functionality and is problematic. I saved diles to the folder and different programs on my local pc call these files.

I followed the steps in the procedure:

Add and sync shared folders to OneDrive for home
I have performed the steps:
Unlink and re-link OneDrive

Reinstalling OneDrive

Reset OneDrive

None of which helped or solved the issue.

This issue appears to have started after installation of the new OneDrive version Build 25.015.0126.0002 (64-bit)
A quick fix for this feature bug is appreciated!

    The broken functionality continues. OneDrive shared folders continue to always open in web browser instead of windows explorer.

    Looking for anyone here to enter into a discussion on how to influence Microsoft to remedy this deprecated functionality. How might we....?

    I continue to search for work arounds and limp along with the clumsy drive mapping. The drive mapping works sort of but it is a technical and non-persistent connection.

    Let's not get angry, lets get organized.

    im a little stuck on step 4. Is this done from Account A's profile. If so where do I replace the path.

    No. All of these instructions assume you are logged in as Account B (the invited account).

    In the template you temporarily pasted into Notepad in Step (2). You're just doing this to methodically construct the path to be used in Step (8). There are two pieces of information you need to properly format the path. That information is contained in Steps (3) and (4).

    When I mapped my network drive the mapping url looked something like this:
https://d.docs.live.net/12345678909884/WifesFiles

where:

https://d.docs.live.net/ is the url to OneDrive

12345678909884  is my CID
WifesFiles    is exact name of the folder being shared

    UPDATE

    While the above worked for a bit, it really sucks and is an awful experience. The drive mapping connection is not sustained. It keeps needing re-authentication which means re-entering a password.

    So I am back to being frustrated with Microsoft for deprecating functionality that we have grown to depend on. It would be great if we could find a way to get Microsoft to care enough to fix it.

    I don't think it's tied to the OneDrive client version. I'm on 25.070.0413.0001 (64-bit) and it's still not working as intended.
