A family of Microsoft word processing software products for creating web, email, and print documents.
Hokey Smokes! I've been busy since I chimed into this thread some time ago. I just saw this post and IT WORKED! Yay! Thank you @EdwardMendelson !

I don't want to use the copilot features that have automatically been added to my Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, PPT, etc.) - and I feel that this should be something that we are able to do, without having to purchase a subscription to copilot and then disable it.
How can I disable these features, to stop the shadow offer to use copilot on every new line I start on a word document and remove the icon from the tool bar?
This should be something that is an optional add on, rather than a mandated installation.

I do not even see the icon in the Authoring and Proofing tools, it was simply never there. I had to disable it through this Connected Experiences pathway. But even so, it's still chasing my cursor around in Word.
Today I noticed the damn thing is on my mobile phone too, on the Safari keyboard. No idea how to get rid of it, let alone simply 'disable' it. It's more than a little crazy, and it's quite disconcerting that this spyware can be installed so openly. Trust is gone.
It's in the Settings. It's shown on top of the first section. Co-pilot wasn't there at first then after I reopened Word it was there. Very weird. I hope yours does the same.![Image](https://learn-attachment.microsoft.com/api/attachments/b2993d3f-0da3-4b92-9764-3e6052415914?platform=QnA
This method also seems to work with the current version of Word:
I also need to remove this ridiculous Copilot thing that has been forced into my documents, but the instructions provided here do not work. I am using Word for Mac, so under File there is no Option button, and under Preferences there is no mention of Copilot anywhere. To shove this feature in our face and not make it easy to disable is deeply stupid.
Some of us are students and we are not allowed to have any AI whatsoever in our documents. What part of that does Microsoft not understand?
It absolutely must be removed from my computer. If it isn't, then I will never be able to use Word again.
Whatever I paid for Office I want it refunded. I am going to use another app and hope my documents will transfer to the new program. This is a disaster. I will try Libre Offie and Neo Office to start with and be sure Copilot is not on either one of them.
