OneDrive Personal Vault cannot unlock, error code 0x8004db90

I haven't been able to access my OneDrive Personal Vault in the past few days. I've tried multiple ways (PC, iOS app, webpage) but none works -

  • on the iOS app, it prompted me to setup personal vault even though I've done the setup a long time ago. After completing authentication, the app popped up with "Unable to complete Personal Vault setup, please try again in a few minutes". I tried removing the app and started fresh and that didn't help.
  • on webpage, after authentication, it popped up saying "There was a problem unlocking your Personal Vault". I tried both Edge and Chrome and got the same results.
  • on PC, onedrive can't unlock my personal vault, and popped up with error code 0x8004db90. I tried unlinking onedrive and relinking it and that didn't help.

Overall this feels like an authentication issue but somehow only affects personal vault access.. If anyone has any suggestions I'd greatly appreciate it!

    Tracy,

    What's the status of resolving this issue?

    I urgently need access to my One Drive Personal Vault.

    I need to prepare my fiscal year end corporate taxes and I cannot access my documents. This is a critical problem for me.

    Is Microsoft treating this problem as a high priority? This is a serious problem.

    I have the same problem - cannot access my personal vault

    I have a critical urgent deadline approaching where I require data that is in my personal vault

    I cannot reach a Microsoft support agent - I don't know what to do next

    Hi Tracy,

    I can confirm the following on my side:

    1.) I have tried an unlink / re-link and even an uninstall and re-install. It makes no difference. Still te same problem.

    2.) Even if I try to access my Onedrive via my browser (Edge), I get the exact same issue. I can access all my folders, except the Personal Vault. I tried all the different available authentication methods to access the Personal Vault, without any success.

    Please work on this problem, as my Personal Vault contains files I urgently need to access.
