Remove Copilot from Word

The latest Microsoft 365 Update has added a Copilot function to Word. Now every time I create a new paragraph, a little copilot symbol appears in the left-hand margin prompting me to use copilot. It is extremely annoying and distracting. How do I stop this symbol appearing, or better, remove copilot from Word?

This is an appalling situation. Copilot does not help me one bit and it is slowing down my productivity in a way that is making me very angry. It is outrageous that MS should impose this burden on people who are paying to have software that helps them to do their work. THIS IS NOT HELPING. Please urgently produce an update with an easy option to turn Co-pilot on or off. If your coders can't do that, they should be fired. If you don't want to do it, you should be fired.

Ian, I assume that you are trying to help those of us who are apoplectic about Copilot being thrust upon us without any choice in the matter. I appreciate your efforts. (I'm not into conspiracy theories, but can you assure me that you are, in fact, human and not some AI algorithm? Your written English sounds stilted to me so I'm suspicious. Please don't take offence... if you are indeed human.... I'm just curious .)

The main point I wish to make though is this: Copilot (and other AI for that matter) need to be made optional. And one shouldn't have to be a techno-boffin and spend hours trying tofigure out and follow arcane instructions as to how to get around the problem.

    Cheers,

Are the ACCC on to it?

    Hi Timothy.

Some of us have reported to the ACCC, but it takes a while for a report to be processed and for a reply to be sent - about 2 weeks. So, we'll see what happens.

Ian's solution worked for me, to disable Copilot in Word, without having to rollback versions.

Simply disable all 'Connected experiences' under 'Account Privacy'. Then restart Word.
