Remove Copilot from Word

There are not sufficient words to express safely in this forum how utterly disgusting your behaviour at Microsoft. You should be ashamed. It's morally repugnant and legally questionable. You've decided intoduce stealth costs by imposes servcies that were not requested then making it as difficult as possible to reserve. You've eroded the remaining trust there was for MSFT. Disgusting

Just don't have time to waste on your internet abuse with Copilot. You put it on my Word. You remove it. Just had enough. You invaded my privacy by putting this garbage on my Word program - you remove it. I've wasted enough of my time on your useless and Copilot. You never had my permission to put this **** on my computer in the first place. I'll report you to the ACCC in Australia our consumer watchdog.

Thanks for the advice. This worked. I was astonished to discover I had been shifted to the AI version of O365 without my permission, and was going to be charged an additional £25 at the next annual billing date for the privilege of having an infuriating Copilot icon hovering around my cursor on Word. Why does MS so often seem unable to understand the simple principle of CONSENT.

That seems like a lot of hoops to jump through just to remove something I did not ask for or want.

I am in the middle of writing a book, (which I have spent years on already), I will NOT risk uninstalling anything at this point.

For crying out loud, please, in the next update, make this optional!

Thank you, it's great to know about the possibility of setting up as 'not the main user', to avoid the Copilot - if that's actually possible. I'm not sure how I'd do that seamlessly though (and again, we shouldn't have to do this).

I read the Ed Bott article: https://www.zdnet.com/article/microsofts-copilot-ai-is-coming-to-your-office-apps-whether-you-like-it-or-not/ where it explains that Australia, New Zealand, a couple of other markets are the 'crash test dummies' for Copilot. So, based on our frustration they'll probably fix it in time for their 'main markets'?! Meanwhile, this has enraged me so much, as does AI in general, that I'm looking around at replacement writing programmes.

Does anyone know anything about open source software or other versatile options e.g. LibreOffice ?? If I can find word processing software that reads and can be copied into from MSWord and which can save as PDF, then I'm keen to consider that and set it up before the next increased MSOfiice365 sub is due (unless they fix this issue very soon).
