Update error code 30088-27 Office 2021 what to do to get corrected????

Hello everyone who is troubled by Office errors, I am back again.

Here is a user in another thread who encountered the exact same problem and finally solved it. It is recommended that everyone in this thread who is still suffering refer to Mark's solution, which should help solve the problem.

Thank you for posting a link to Mark.Li - MSFT's "solution" (a long, multi-step process written in Italian that instructs users to create an alias Microsoft account and reset their local registry credentials before disabling automatic Office updates and using the command prompt method to manually Office, according to the page translation feature built into in my Firefox browser). Unfortunately, your suggestion appears to be a day too late.

AFAIK Microsoft fixed this 30088-27 update error on their own end yesterday (17-Aug-2024). Multiple users in different forums, including me, are reporting that manual updates at File | Office Account | Update Options | Update Now are working normally again, and users are not required to make changes to any of their system or MS Office settings to get updates working again.

However, all the early feedback I've read so far is from home consumers. I don't know if Microsoft's backend fix has also solved the 30088-27 update error for users in an IT-managed business environment who use a business edition of MS Office C2R.

After installing build 16.0.17830.20166 this problem is not present anymore on my PC.

This is what I've done:

1. I turned on the automatic Office updates in File - Account - Options (as it's always been)
2. I opened an Admin Terminal session and copied and pasted this command:

"C:\Program Files\Common Files\microsoft shared\ClickToRun\officec2rclient.exe" /update user updatetoversion=16.0.17830.20166

A regular Office update window opened and I just waited 'till the end and then closed it.

No more error now when I check for Office updates.

I hope it does the same for you.

So here comes another random fix that worked for me. YMMV

I use a little software called DoNotSpy11 to control a lot of Windows 10 less desirable activities. For kicks, I turned off this software's changes because there are settings that can affect updates and customer experience ... I restarted and low and behold, my 2024 pre-release updated like a boss....

Since you use the DoNotSpy11 utility to control your MS Office LTSC Pro Plus 2024 Preview privacy settings it's not too surprising that turning this utility off and restarting your computer fixed your 30088-27 update error.

Please read my 02-Aug-2024 post on page 7 of Prius 04's Microsoft 365 Update Error 30088-27 where I noted that "The only way I can consistently stop this update error is to go to File | Office Account | Privacy Settings | Manage Settings | Connected Experiences, enable the single setting Turn On All Connected Experiences as shown below, and restart my computer (the re-boot is critical)."

Many other users have already posted that enabling this privacy setting and re-booting stops their 30088-27 update error, but this workaround does not work for everyone, including Prius 04.

I also stated in Prious 04's topic that I do not want to enable this optional privacy setting because I do not want any MS Office documents or emails syncing with OneDrive (the image below shows OneDrive appears as a connected service when File | Office Account | Privacy Settings | Manage Settings | Connected Experiences | Turn On All Connected Experiences is ENABLED), so this workaround is not a viable solution for me.

Version 2407 16.0.17830.20166 is available on the release channel, but the known error message is still present (at least for me (using Microsoft 365)).

I had tried the uninstall and reinstall some time ago with no success, but your message made me try it again since it worked for you. After uninstalling and rebooting, I installed from the MSI and activated. I then hit Update Now and it worked, bringing me to the current version. As a final test, I hit Update Now again and the error is back.

I think we will have to wait until the next update to see how serious this is. I suspect that an Online Repair may be the only way to update Office until someone finds the cause of this issue.
