Folders Shared with me are syncing as internet shortcut in OneDrive on Windows PC

Hi. I had some folders shared from different users in my OneDrive account. I had added the folders to my OneDrive with Add Shortcut to OneDrive button from Shared folders in cloud. The account is logged into a windows pc and every files including the folders shared with my were syncing fine until yesterday. Yesterday night the shared folders were completely removed from the Windows pc and folders are replaced with internet shortcut. This is such a big mess. I have tried unlinking the account and linking it back, changing the location of OneDrive on my windows pc and tried to get a new folder shared to my account and adding it to OneDrive. Nothing works so far. OneDrive has a big part in my daily activities. Please help me resolve this.

Here is the statement from the Microsoft OneDrive product group (Redmond USA) about the OneDrive Personal problem:

***This is related to a backend migration we are doing and unfortunately, we don’t fully support syncing shared folders in the case where one user has migrated and the other has not. We’re doing everything possible to accelerate things so that it can be resolved as soon as possible for users of the feature. When the accounts are migrated, there is automated logic that makes them go back to a syncing folder within several days.***I have heard, that shared Folder issue is gone.
The best thing is: WAIT and do nothing

    Hi, we have as well serious problems with this issue! When I click (4 days ago) the button "restart and update to windows 11" after that all my devise Shared One Drive folders, disappeared and appeared only in as shortcut links!

    a) Does anybody tried to go back to Windows 10? Is that option fixed the problem?
    b) Is the problem on OneDrive CLOUD, or on One Drive APPLICATION?

    Please for your advice...

    I'm having the same problem.

    The folder I share with my husband suddenly became a shortcut I can't get access to.

    When I open the shortcut, the folder seems empty.

    I hope this problem will be fixed soon.

    I had the following response from the support team, but despite doing all of their suggested actions, I still have the problem so it is NOT fixed!

    We have read your concern and thank you for reporting this issue. We would like to inform you that this was an ongoing issue, and it was reported by other users as well. However, we just received an update from our concerned team and would like to inform you that the fix has been rolled out for the reported issue.

     

    We request you check and confirm if you are still facing the same issue when accessing shared folders from OneDrive folder in file explorer.

    If the issue persists, please try removing the shortcut and then adding the folder again. Please also check and make sure your OneDrive app and Windows is up to date.

     

    To update the OneDrive app, click here: 24.091.0505.0002

    I cant understand what is going on now. The OneDrive version that I have installed currently is 24.116.0609.002 (64bit) which is obviously a newer release than this one (and the ones that are available in OneDrive download pages) . It will not let me install unless I uninstall my current OneDrive and install this older version. I am almost sure that this will not resolve my issue but let me give it a try.

    Edit : Tried and it did not work as he said. When I reinstalled the app the version that got installed was 24.116.0609.002 . Wonderful. No need to try it fellas.

    It has nothing to do with the app i think. Or may be I'm wrong. The files that are shared with me on other accounts shows as Shared in OneDrive online. But the shortcuts are created for the ones that are shown as private . Same sharing permission, different outcomes. Hats off to MS developers.
