Why is OneDrive so terrible?

Why would MS think that anyone would want the entire contents of their personal hard drive to be uploaded to a cloud? And further, why would it make sense to delete the local files if someone deleted them from the cloud? In what world does this make sense. It is a poorly designed system and it's a huge violation of privacy of your customers. I have nearly lost all my files because I "deleted" them from OneDrive. I guess I stupidly thought that my local files were safe, as I did not try to delete them. OneDrive, in its ineptitude, decided for me that since I didn't want them on some server somewhere, that I must not need them at all.

Please move to an opt-in model instead of the current opt-out model. And upon opting in, there should be a tutorial of the functionality of the software. A tutorial that an idiot can understand. And it should default to sharing a single folder, not the entirety of a computer.

If it was designed this way to artificially increase "usage" of the terrible software, you did a great job. But you increased usage to impress whoever at the cost of your customers' happiness and at the cost of their privacy. As a basic rule, people don't like their personal possessions (including data) being taken without their knowledge or consent. If you are going to steal our data anyway, at least be sneakier about it.

    Hi Raymond. I can see you mean well, but unfortunately, this type of response from Microsoft techies is typical of the frustrating genre, which is, essentially, to always miss the point and give out the same answer to all-comers, which is as follows :

    "Look, you poor sap, you don't understand. This app was designed to be ill thought through and cause users serious problems - why do you think we mis-described it as a back-up resource? What I'm telling you, is that because the app worked exactly as we designed it to, that means it's perfect, and YOU, the user, are the problem - bless your tiny little mind"

    One Drive is horrible. not sure why they are trying to force feed this garbage to their customers. has caused me many problems deleting things from it, that I didnt want deleted.

    I lost my entire music library of 300 GB when I deleted my copy in One Drive. I needed more room in the cloud. I copied my local music library to OneCloud but then I realized it was of no use.

    You cannot play continuously all the audio files in a folder from One Drive. I am cancelling One Drive and moving to an Apple system.

    MS stinks, really.

    It does not clearly, from the get go, explain the relationship between the cloud and the hard drive or warn you when you delete something in the cloud that it also will delete the original.

    I got no positive use from it. It created a disaster, instead.
