I'm not sure if it works on every document, but it worked on one of mine!
(Edit on 4/26) It works on some documents but not on others... Does anyone else have the same problem?

Someone in the comment section said "The latest word, as of today, is "The latest update in the bug is that there are still some approvals that the team is waiting on. The Word team is treating this as a high-priority incident and is working to have this restored as soon as possible.". So anyone wondering for any updates, there it is...

Same here. I have tried it on browser as well as desktop version but it's not working. Hoping Microsoft resolves it soon!
I'm having the same problem. Something went wrong try refreshing your browser. Mine is also provided from my school. It was working fine last week. And then it stopped..
Commenting on the first post I saw with a similar timeline. I used this feature regularly, occasionally borked out, but it worked if I reloaded Word. Seemed like since late October or early November when this started failing always, and on different systems.
I am a standard Microsoft 365 user....and that is actually through my other personal windows account and not related to a school account (as I've seen some comments on that)
Same problem here. The similarity checker stopped working this month (November 2023). Did you notice that my answer is similar to the one above?, OMG I really need it.
