OneDrive Will Not Run MacOS Catalina 10.15.7

I have had Office 365, including OneDrive running on this Mac for several years. Yesterday, OneDrive updated itself (I have the Microsoft AutoUpdater set to automatically download and install updates) to version 23.061.0319. Following that update, it will not run.

I click on the icon in the launchpad, nothing happens

I click on the icon within Finder->Applications, nothing happens

I do not get an error message, there is nothing in the system log, it does not show up in application monitor, it seems to be just dead.

Here is what the system says about the OneDrive.app:

If I run Microsoft AutoUpdate, this is what it shows for Microsoft products:

None of the Office products is up to date (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, OneNote, Outlook). They are all on version 16.66 because the next version, 16.71 requires an OS Update, which will never come, because this macbook (Macbook Air, mid 2012) is too old and Catalina 10.15.7 is the most upgraded it can get.

Only OneDrive is up to date, v23061.0319, installed yesterday on 4/3/2023.

What can I do to get back to a previous version of OneDrive so that it works??? This sucks that it did not recognize that the most current version is not compatible with my laptop.

    Microsoft won't fix this.
    Support replied me that now OneDrive works only on Mac OX 11 and above.
    This is a service I pay for and suddenly no chance to make it work due an automatic update (I didn't ask for) and no warnings, shame on Microsoft.

    Good solution that worked for me, so thanks. It also makes logical sense. Hiding the updater app in an obscure system location is an unnecessary complication. I am reconsidering my dependence on Onedrive as a result.

    My macOS cannot be updated... although it being 9 years old, except for one drive, the whole system is working absolutely fine...

    I have no idea where to get the old one drive app and how to stop autoupdate on it, until Microsoft finds a solution for this.

    Can someone please help with this

    Why did you include a link for Windows OneDrive while the question is specific about a flaw with Onedrive for MacOS Catalina?

    [edited with corrections]

    here's what i did based on what Charlie47 commented on here (best to read his comments to understand the reason why this works).

    • open Terminal (search spotlight), write/paste sudo nano /etc/hostsand hit return
    • write your password
    • below the last line of text write/paste 0.0.0.0 oneclient.sfx.msand hit return (if u see something at the bottom regarding file name or something simply hit return again)
    • should be done by now so hit Control + O to save and then Control + X to exit
    • restart your computer to flush cache (just in case)
    • go to https://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?linkid=823060, install the previous version of OneDrive and once that's done it should be working as before

    i tried many other suggestions, both from this forum and the one i linked before, and this one was the only one that worked for me (OneDrive has been working as before all afternoon).

    I was able to follow instructions, and verify my ping is not returned. However, after I install older version, it still auto updates itself the very first time I run it. I verified I am using the installer package for a previous version. The previous version runs for a few seconds, then closes and will not open again. And then I check the app info and it has self updated to the latest version again.
