I have M365 Family and a domain name not on GoDaddy

Thanks for @EdRandall_TAC 's blog which nicely sets out the sequence of actions.

Questions about other family members:

• Does setting up the primary account create a mailbox for each family member? MS knows who's in the family after all.
• What do they have to do?
• Will they be losing emails during the transition, or just not be able to access them?

I could find out by experiment, but if you have done it already, I would appreciate knowing what to expect.

Okay, I'll try again and set the MX priority to 0. That's the only thing I did differently because I figured it shouldn't matter.

The only question that remains unanswered is whether it's possible to set up a custom domain during the trial period. No one has confirmed or denied that yet.

My observation is that the MX priority must be 0 (zero) for 365 to pick it up (which will be almost immediate). No other value worked for me (get the Your domain yourdomain.com is still being configured. This can take up to 24 hours message).

I'm wondering whether it's possible to set up more than one such personal domainname for a 365 Family account.

Clearly there's no restrictions on configuring the DNS records, the MXRecordValue is a constant for the account. It would just be dependent on the Microsoft side allowing it.

It seems that if one only needs to send using an additional domain, it is much more straightforward to set up aliases on the Microsoft account under "Your Info". This would require some other arrangement for receiving any replies eg. forwarding from one's own ISP for example. I'm not sure what the SPF / DMARC situation would be, though.

The URL is at the top of the browser window that pops up when you choose to use an existing domain (launching from Outlook personalized settings).

I think I had the same issue as you. Setup the domain records with your registrar and wait a couple of records. Disconnect your domain and then try to setup your existing domain. It should work fairly quickly.
