How to disable Files On-Demand in OneDrive MacOS? It's enforced since the last update ...

For OneDrive home and business, I cannot disable Files-On-Demand since the last update. This is crucial, I need full access to my files at all time.

What is going on? Why would you enforce Files On-Demand on your customers, isn't it enough to enable it by default? My 70GB of cloud data is not local anymore, sometimes I have no internet, you are locking me away from my files. Also making it impossible for me to do full text searches. Files On-Demand is also too slow, waiting a second to display folder contents is too much when you organize things in deep folder structures.

How I can disable Files On-Demand? Will you please stop knowing the best for your customers? We aren't toddlers. Thanks!

If Files On-Demand is enforced by policy, I will leave your cloud service once and for all.

"Jack from Microsoft" - the architect for the OneDrive sync client - posted blog post "Update 2/1/2022" yesterday. He explains how OneDrive for macOS client works in connection to macOS File Provider platform.

That will not help some people issues but it explains a lot. https://techcommunity.microsoft.com/t5/microsoft-onedrive-blog/inside-the-new-files-on-demand-experience-on-macos/ba-p/3058922/page/2

    Greetings,

The manual solution to "Always keep on device" does not work, when I open the folder, there is still a lag before the files appear. Two major problems:

    1. As researchers working collaboratively via onedrive/sharepoint we need files to be available on our hardrives. We run automated R analyses from a pool of research files (including data and scripts) hosted in folders synced via onedrive/sharepoint. The Files are now either not available or their pathname has changed from root to ~/library/... for some users it has changed, for others not: you have broken our research applications.
    2. When did we consent — as Microsoft 365 users using institutional research accounts — to have our professional files (including research data protected by European ethical commitees) separated from our hard drive and stored only on your cloud server?

I would request that you either undo the automated file on demand option that was unrolled without consultation or that you provide a one click option to disable it and restore files on disk under the original root path.

    Best,

    Dr. LH

In my case, I'm using OneDrive as part of my Office 365 subscription, so there's no "upgrade" that can be made. This is a really stupid decision on Microsoft's part, especially not warning people.

The problem is you can no longer select which files you want to keep on your hard drive - the option to 'keep all files on this device' doesn't work!!
