How to disable Files On-Demand in OneDrive MacOS? It's enforced since the last update ...

This may have been repeated by others, but once you re-download the folders/files to your computer it will still seem a hair slow if you are using the "OneDrive" folder to open things. I've found that if you repoint all your shortcuts/favorites to the actual OneDrive.noindex folder that others have pointed out in Group Containers - OneDrive StandAlone the slow lag is gone.

Nothing like having this ultra fast new MacBook Pro M1 Max and feeling like its slow to open excel files...

This obviously is not much of a permanent workaround since the whole file syncing and keeping files on local drive options is unreliable. But if you want to work within your files faster I'd try that for now.

Mia: As you are seeing in the many responses, we need to know the plan -- even if it's not immediate. We need to plan either temporary action or a permanent plan, as many of us are smaller businesses that can no longer operate with Microsoft if this problem is not corrected.

I have tried MS' workaround that they tell you about AFTER MS has deleted all your data. If you click the "Always keep on this device' option, it appears to eventually store the file locally. You are now unable to see file or folder sizes and there is a significant delay in loading the supposedly local files. Totally unusable. I have no choice other than to stop using Onedrive. It makes me wonder whether it is time to ditch Office 365 (I have disabled auto renew until I make up my mind).

Do you have any idea how discriminatory this is to rural populations...not to mention EXPENSIVE. Living a rural area and having very limited bandwidth AND a limited satellite data plan I cannot function like this. Our "platinum' viasat plan throttles my connection when I get past 100GB, if I am to use a cloud-based system "on demand" I will be out of data in a matter of days. I am a scientist at our university, my files are in the 100s of MBs each and now you are forcing me to access them remotely. I simply cannot function like this. when I right click to 'keep file on my computer' it will be there until I restart my macbook, then I"m back to everything on the cloud. You have no idea how real-world people need to function. This is an absolute mess for me.

I would love to know who was the super smart engineer who stopped saving files to disk to saving to ram memory.

I have a drive with 400gb of files that I keep synchronized with my Windows PC, and when I buy a new Mac M1 Max I expect it to work the same, but after synchronizing some folders and checking the option "Always Keep On This Devide" OneDrive simply synced 60gb of files using Ram/Swap memory.

Honestly, I've never seen such a stupid change, congratulations to whoever authorized something like this to be compiled for production... I'll have to migrate now 400gb to Dropbox or GDrive to be able to use it and sync with other devices.
