How to disable Files On-Demand in OneDrive MacOS? It's enforced since the last update ...

Hi. I am very, very angry about this new intrusion into my privacy and into my ownership of my data. Effectively, you have unilaterally decided to delete all my most important files from my harddrive. It frankly feels like data theft in all respects.

Besides the fact that you have deleted my files from my computer – I am quite worried about whether I will be able to get the data back. What I (obviously) want to do now is to download all my data, leave OneDrive because it is clearly extremely unreliable and unethical, and go to another cloud storage provider. But I am unable to move (i.e. download) the files out of the OneDrive network drive (it just stalls) and I am equally unable to go to the web portal and download my files. It just downloads a zip-file with a bunch of error messages in .txt-files ("The following files/folders have not been downloaded ...").

Please give me a 100% certain solution to download all my data – which you have deleted without asking – immediately!

Has anyone else found a working solution to download the data Microsoft deleted?

A few hours ago I (in anger and frustration) subscribed to pCloud, and it turns out they have a "backup"-solution that allows you to enter your OneDrive login-data and pCloud will transfer all data for you. It's not fast, will probably take 2-3 days for my 300GB, but I'm so shocked and provoked that MS deleted all my files that it's worth it.

This is what you would expect. A move unix-like which only shuffles some inodes. But in my case I was working in an Excel file. Selected save and got the message after some time: not allowed to write. Then selected save as: after a while same problem. Not enough rights to write file. Only when not saving to the onedrive dir I could write. After closing excel I noticed that my onedrive had been replsced by a link or alias. That link led me to a directory skeleton. All directories and no files. Zero size. Clicking on a file would start excel which after a minute or so would open the file (i'm behind a 500mbit link for my personal use only, so???). I have two root directories in onedrive. So rightclicking and select download always. Nothing happened. Only when I drill down to a directory and select always on this machine I get the circle which slowly fills with grey as the files are downloaded. From what I think something went wrong when moving the files (whilst I was working in excel :-() and it has to do with rights (with ACL and xattr the 3 numbers for chmod no longer are enough). It is a bad idea to have user data in ~/Library anyway. (Less tech-savy users think they have all their data when copying the directories they can see). I don't use icloud for the exact same reason. Only when I want a file on my phone I copy it to onedrive. Just like most people use multiple srtreaming services, (professional) people use multiple cloudservices, so not one of them should act as if there is no competition. Unfortunately they all do :-(. Q.E.D. this post. And for the numbers: I had a little over 100.000 files in the two directories. Downloading through the browser dit dot work. It was really fast because I got a lot of underscore all errors.txt files. Great. Luckily my last timemachine backup was 9 minutes before the "update".

If only I'd discovered this myself before spending hours marking folders "Always Keep on this Device"... smh EasyFind search confirms duplicate copies of each file now. For the love of Pete!!!

I'm having the same issue and am shocked that Microsoft would do this!
Incidentally, it's not the plan you have that makes any difference. I have 1 TB of storage of which I use half and I have exactly the same issue with my files having been deleted and only appearing on the cloud.

Just installed office without deleting the old version (configuring Outlook is a hassle). Anyway Nothing happened. Then decided tot add FilesOnDemandEnabled 0 to onedrive plist. Reboot nothing happened. What I did find was an old version of my files in another hidden directory. So ms is making a mess of it. There seemed to be (or still are?) two versions of one-drive. One for business and one for normal users. Unfortunately they have identical names. No one at ms seems to get the point that a person can have multiple accounts and roles. :-) and use only 2 machines as in my case.

I lost data by the way. My time table which I use to record my hours or january. As far as I can see I will have to delete the onedrive app and every instance of a hidden file which relates to onedrive. Which is a pain since the files have partial UUID in their path/names. great :-(

Then reinstall Onedrive and see if it works. But first download and save my files. I don't like icloud because I can't access it as a drive. Which onedrive can. But if control has to be handed over to a programmer who has no idea off what I want, even can't think of it, syncing as a service ends for me.
