Microsoft Access is not allowing me to compact and repair the database. It keeps saying file is open. I made new database and imported files even then same issue and it says it is opening in sharing mode. I haven't shared with anybody. How to shut off this sharing mode. Mine is a single computer for home and is not part of any network. Please guide. Thank you. Ripal

At this point, I'd have to say try reinstalling Access.

What version of Access do you have installed?

    I am following.

Having the same problem. I can't compact and repair any of my access files.

I opened access, created a new, blank, database and was able to compact that but when I open up any of my other databases they all tell me another user is on and won't let me compact and repair.

Hi Grover, I am at sea here. Don't know what to do. I don't use Grammarly. Please guide. Even new files are having this problem. Thanks. And now all files it wants to open in shared mode. That's another headache.

Thanks. It looks to me like both problem reports are for 64 bit Access. I don't know if that is relevant, but it's worth including in the discussion.
