Printing Envelopes in Word - Blank Page Printing After

Using Word 2016

Printing form letters and envelopes is a large part of my job. For years I've been able to go to the mailings tab, select envelopes, have the address extracted from the letter and print the envelope no problem. As of this week, every time I do this a blank sheet of paper prints out after the envelope. To clarify, there is not a blank page being added to my document, just a blank page being printed out after the correctly printed envelope. One proposed solution I've seen is to disable two-sided printing which I have done and it did not solve the problem.

Update:

While I have not been able to solve the root problem of Microsoft printing an extra page when printing envelopes, I was able to change printer settings to stop the issue. In printer preferences (for my printer, under the detailed settings tab) I turned disable blank page print on. I want to clarify that this is not the cause of the problem, as I have had this setting off for years and never had this issue, but it does fix the problem :)

    We are using 365.

    A coworker was having this issue. I opened his document on my computer and tried printing an envelope to see if it happened on my computer. It did. But now it is doing it on my computer all the time. (It wasn't before I opened his document.) Another coworker printed an envelope with the same document, but it did not happen for her. She just got the envelope (same printer).

    I open a letter document in word. I click on Mailings, then Envelopes, then I hit print. I get my envelope fine, but then a blank page prints out. I am not adding the envelope to the document. I'm simply hitting print in the envelope window.

    I tried your suggestion of trying a different printer. It does the same thing on that one as well. I tried going into the advanced settings in word and selected Print Only the Data From a Form. That didn't help.

    I cannot find anything on line in regards to this specific problem.

    Please help!

    It seems as though this specific issue was only recently introduced in the latest update to Office. One of my clients started having this exact issue only last week after their Office apps were updated to the current version - Microsoft 365 Office Apps for Business Version 2202 Build 16.0.14931.20128. Prior to this update they could click on Mailings > Envelopes > enter the delivery and/or return address > click Print and it would only print a single envelope, which is the way it had been behaving for years. Since the update, now they go through this same exact procedure and it prints out a blank page after the envelope every time, no matter which printer they are printing to, and even printers that don't have an option to include a separate page. I was able to replicate this issue on my own computer with the same version of Office by printing the envelope to Microsoft Print to PDF and saving the document, then when opening the PDF document it contains the envelope page and the additional blank page.

    As a workaround for the client I created an envelope template for them to use, but this is absolutely an issue with the Mailings > Envelopes > Print functionality.

    Confirmed working today after manually checking for updates (one was available) in Word, click File, Account, Update Options, Update Now, looks like MS just fixed it.

    I am having the same exact issue on a clients computer. They are using Word 2019 and when they print an envelope a second envelope is grabbed but its blank. I am 8 hours into troubleshooting and just found this troubleshooting page. MICROSOFT PLEASE FIX!!!!!!!!!!

    Welcome to Microsoft Community and appreciate your time taken for sharing detailed information. I understand that Printing Envelopes in Word - Blank Page Printing After. I could share with you some of my thoughts on this issue.

    Some questions before proceeding. Have you done anything before this problem arises? (Like updating your printer driver) Is your Word 2016 the latest version? You could print your envelopes to a different printer and see if this happens again. If the problem is still there, it may be the settings issue in your Word. If there are a lot of blank spaces in the document before printing, maybe you can set it up like this and then print the envelope to see if the problem persists.

    Click File > Options > Advanced > scroll down to Print and then see the When print this document: . And check Print only the data from a form.
