OneDrive deleted local files and started syncing old files !

same thing happend to me. when onedrive started the sync, all my locals files (desktop, documents,pictures folder) where deleted. right now I am having hard time downloading my files from onedrive.  

onedrive should not delete our files stored in our computers.

I reinstalled my pc but uploaded my files to onedrive before doing so, in the hopes that I can have a completely fresh install while keeping the stuff I was working on. The files were mostly art projects, some code, some layouts for things and so on.

I had to take a break from my work because of changing jobs but I now return to find that somehow, after some windows updates, WITHOUT MY EXPLICIT APPROVAL, not only are my files mysteriously gone, but everything is overridden with only my now almost empty images folder. 

I never asked to have my images folder synced. I never told one drive to keep backups of ANYTHING automatically. 

I've gone through onedrive and it still has photos from years back, but all the files I specifically uploaded are completely gone. Everything is gone. I went through the file history and it's useless. it only lists oneNote entries. 

I checked the recycle bin... and for some(GOD ONLY KNOWS WHY) reason it's full of just quicksaves from steam. What the ****?! Why would this even be a feature? Steam already has cloud saves. I never enabled this. 

And why are my documents and images and everything else now replaced with new onedrive synced folders!? Where are my original images folders from a week ago???? WHEN WAS THIS CHANGE MADE AND WHY?! You can't just release updates that fundamentally CHANGE how files are organized without **** telling the end user!

Seriously, what the **** is going on at Microsoft???????? Do you have like some meeting where you, you know, like normal functioning software developers actually discuss end user details? Do you not have tests? Do you not have some CI or something??? Does anyone there even use windows for anything other than developing windows??? 

Over 400 hours of work are gone. 

I know you might think that that sounds like nothing. As someone who has worked support, I know how much the job can suck away from one's life, so I don't blame you, but this was important to me. It's like losing childhood photos. Do you know what that's like? I sometimes wonder if the people working at Microsoft even had a childhood to be honest.

Do me a favor, tell everyone who works on OneDrive to go **** themselves. 

Seriously. You can't help me in any other way. The only way you can help make the world a better place now is by going to the staff and telling them what a bunch of retards they are.

Pay for one drive if you aren't yet or start your free trial. They will not help you unless you get the 1tb of service. Then just RESTORE ONEDRIVE to 30 days or whenever your files were available to you.

This is ridiculous. Who told you that I need all my computer in OneDrive?????

OneDrive now is syncronizing all the folders, desktop included, and I can't stop it because Onedrive says that desktop is an important folder. Of course it is!!!!  But it's important for me, not for onedrive. I have to decide what folder to keep online and what folder to keep in the local hard disk of my personal computer.

Now I stopped doing anything since I don't want to make any mistake and risk to cancel permanently my files.

What shall I do?

Run, Forest, run...lol. Seriously though. I spoke to OneDrive via email. Spoke to Microsoft tech support. They are ignorant and clueless, in that order. Here is the only two solutions I could come up with: 1- turn off internet access; shut down OneDrive on local PC; back up local OneDrive folder; unininstall OneDrive; rinse and repeat on all devices but the one you want to sync to OneDrive cloud. 2 - hook up external drive; manually back up local OneDrive folder from a single PC as/when needed. This is the option I am using as I am looking for an alternative.

Similar issue here too. :( -

1. I changed a laptop, created a new local user admin, copied all files to new local folders. Used my existing signon (i.e. Microsoft Account email) to OneDrive; deleted unnecessary 'old files' from OneDrive ("got message: ugh you deleted etc... 30 days to recover..") - and cleaned up/reset the old laptop for someone else to use..
2. Updated mine to Windows 10 1909 - about a month ago or so. ALL IS WELL!
3. Then a couple of days ago I got a Microsoft message that I'm ready for Windows 10 2004 update! - I did read with alarm all hassles users had experienced with 2004 update...
4. I  felt BRAVE... and went ahead... The update worked!  BUT somehow my old user was primary local user and associated with all new and old files... and my new local user had only its 'newly arranged files'.

...I'm not a geek but 'somewhat knowledgeable user'... How in the earth I can merge local user onedrives and associate them with current local user? 

What to do??? ;( - Would I be better off switching camp from Microsoft and One Drive to another suite & cloud service?
