Click-to-Run High CPU Usage

Recently I noticed that there was a background application constantly running on my PC called 'click-to-run'. It runs from the moment I switch on the PC and it never stops and even if I stop the task, it will simply start again. It uses around 25% CPU load and when opening an Office app, like Word, that app uses another 25%. I am using Office 365 which I downloaded through the Education bundle which they offer. Is there a fix for this high CPU load please?

    Hello Daniel !

Bingo ! you spot the issue !! After reading your comments, i tried to switch off my internal broadband connection (4G) and swith to my poor Wifi connection in my house and......

No more Click to run high CPU or Office application with high average CPU !

So since the last update in office the issue is with "limited connexion" like 4G internal connection (Broadband card)

    @Microsoft : Can you please investigate ?

    Regards,

    Ludovic

    Hello Stephen,

Thanks for the screenshot, during tests with the latest 2005 (Build 12827.20336) of the Current Channel (Preview) channel, I could find the problem of "Click-to-run process High CPU usage" only when the Office updates. After that, it works normally.

I noticed the Microsoft Word application also consume high CPU, may I confirm the problem still persists after the updates? If so, Would the "Click-to-run process High CPU usage" problem persists after closing all opening Office applications? I'm thinking whether Click-to-run process needs to complete some tasks required in the opening Word documents.

If the "Click-to-run process High CPU usage" problem persists even you have closed all Office applications, I would like to suggest you perform Online Repair to repair the Office suite.

    Best Regards,

    Hugo

    Hello Stephen,

    Sorry to hear that.

The Click-to-Run service is required during using Office and I would like to suggest you open one of Office applications, click File -> Account, on the right-hand Product Information panel, click Update Options -> Update Now. After updating and restarting Office application, you may check whether the Click-to-Run service still consuming high CPU resources.

If the problem persists, could you upload a screenshot to show the update channel and detailed version of Office? I may directly do some tests with the specific Office suite.

*On the Product Information panel, you can find the update channel and detailed version of Office on the About Word/Excel/PowerPoint section.

    We appreciate your feedback.

    Best Regards,

    Hugo
