Why does my excel window lag so much when moved around the screen? no other app windows have the problem

When  I have excel open, even a tiny spreadsheet, and move the window around the screen there is severe lag. The window can keep moving around the screen for a few seconds after I have stopped moving the mouse. I am running windows 10 with all updates installed and Office 365 with all updates installed.

The lag gets worse when connected to an external high res monitor.

This problem does NOT occur with any other application window which can be moved around the screen as fast as I like with no lag.

I am running Surface Pro 3, i5 8Mb Ram with all updates installed.

The "Fix"/"Workaround" described by Dreidel90 does improve the lag issue significantly. The window becomes usable.

But there is still some lag.

But now another weird thing: Close the file (File -> Close) so that Word will stay open. While no document is open there is no lag at all (Word 2016).

Cool fix. Switching views to fix screen lag.

That is what I call a "voodoo fix". Who knows why it works, it is enough to know that for some reason it does work.

Yes it would be nice if MS would fix the root cause. But as a former developer I know that trying to fix an intermittent problem like this is really tough. If the trouble shooting developer can't make the problem happen on demand, it is hard to debug.

    WE NEED HEIP.

Here, try this solution from one of my previous replies. It seems to work for me.

    Hi Everybody,

Here is something I adjust on every Windows install I have performed since Windows 7.  I adjust the Windows Display Performance settings as shown below.  Once completed, I don't have lag issues with moving windows around anymore. The window lag issue has been a bug in Windows since Vista.

Here you go - Make sure to Un-check the options I highlighted below in the image.
