Disk Utility warnings in OS X Mojave and OneDrive for mac

OneDrive for Mac (v 18.222.1104.0007) is causing error in OS X Disk Utility (OS X Mojave 10.14.2 and 10.14.1):

warning: inode_val: object (oid 0xcb5b5): invalid bsd_flags (0x10)

Found this being OneDrive by re-installing the operating system and also by converting 0xcb5b5 to decimal format and running " find / -inum 832949 " in terminal.

I also send a support ticket but those tips didn't work (see bellow):

-------------------- START OF SUPPORT ANSWER -----------------------

Dear Customer,

You are now in contact with the support team by e-mail.

Regarding your issue please verify the following information in the article to check if the issue is related to this:https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/help/3125202/restrictions-and-limitations-when-you-sync-files-and-folders

After verifying the information above please continue to reset the OneDrive app:

1-Launch Activity Monitor & Kill OneDrive processes

2-Launch Keychain Access and delete OneDrive keys

3-End OneDrive processes and Keys

4-First, navigate to the OneDrive application. Then you Control-click the application. When you do that, you should see the following menu appear:

5-From that menu, select “Show Package Contents”. You will then see a list of folders and files within the OneDrive application. Note: don’t mess with things in here as it could break your application.

6-Within the “Contents” folder, scroll down to the “Resources” folder.

Search for: ResetOneDriveAppStandalone.command

It’s not an application. It just a script that is run in the terminal. Note, when you run it, you may need to authenticate as an administrator.

To run the script, just double-click on it. It should launch Terminal and run through a variety of options. Once it has finished, you are done!

7-Once you have run the script (and already did the other 2 items earlier), you should be able to launch OneDrive as if it were a completely new installation. You should be prompted to enter your login information and start synchronizing.

------------------------- END OF SUPPORT MESSAGE --------------------------

Only thing happened after "clean install of OneDrive" was that the DiskUtility error is now this (the object value has changed):

warning: inode_val: object*(oid 0x1281e1**): invalid bsd_flags (0x10)*

Is this a known problem or something new?

Hi All,

Thanks for letting us know your situation and sharing your experience here. We totally understand your frustration for encountering this, we are always more than willing to help all users in this community.

We have discussed internally with higher level support resources on this issue. Disk Utility error warnings occur from Mac Disk Utilities and Terminal since both are Apple products, it is hard for us to get the source code for further investigation even though we would like to do. We also do not understand the logic it used to flag the OneDrive at first place. So we believe it is the best to reach out to Apple support first for this case.

From our side, a support ticket number is required for our product team to check more details if you still need our help. Once the ticket is created, please post back here as soon as you can. We will contact our related team again then.

We really appreciate your understanding.

    Hi janveCI,

    Thanks for your detailed information.

Per my test on Mojave 10.14.2 and the same OneDrive (v 18.222.1104.0007), I cannot reproduce this error message on my side.

According to your Terminal screenshot, it allows to access OneDrive sync folder but no extra information mentioned. Does this warning affect your Mac? Can your OneDrive work fine currently?

We also receive the ticket number provided in PM. However, we don't find anything via this number. It seems not to be a Microsoft Service Request ticket. Is it Apple Support who directs you to check this warning?

Considering the warning occurs after installing OneDrive and you have reset OneDrive, does the warning disappear when you remove OneDrive but emerge if OneDrive is reinstalled?

    Regards,

    Eli

    Hi,

Thanks for the fast reply. This warning doesn't seem to have any other impact but the warning that disk utility gives (quite hard to figure out if it really has any impact or not) and OneDrive app seems to work as it should. As Catalambano said earlier, when removing the OneDrive and all related content, the warning disappears. Btw. I'm on Macbook Pro mid 2018 15" 256Gb.

The ticket number was received after sending a message through the one drive app. Got the answer from the address "Microsoft OneDrive Support <odrvhelp@****>" and the number I gave you in PM was placed in the subject of the message (OneDrive account is a enterprise / university account - don't know if this makes any changes if you are trying to find the right ticket)

I have the same problem with mojave 10.14.2. If I remove Onedrive folder, Diskutil warning disappear. But when Onedrive app (macappstore, latest version) make new folder, Diskutil make warning again.

I have this problem on my iMac retina late 2014 (SSD-APFS) and my Macbook pro late 2016 (SSD-APFS with filevault).

In addition, full system recovery from the time machine backup stops on both computers and fails.

    Hi janveCI,

According toFixes or workarounds for recent issues in OneDrive, seems there is no known issue regarding this now. However, I found the similar issue based on your information in OneDrive UserVoice. Here isremove warning: inode_val: object : invalid bsd flags for your reference.

You are both on Mojave and similar error message except different codes.

So I would like to confirm the following information for further assistance:

1.You mentioned that OneDrive is causing this error in Disk Utility. How did you get this warning?

2.Seems you type "find / -inum 832949" in Terminal and find the related path which points OneDrive. Could you share the screenshot of the result of running this cmdlet in Terminal with us to better understand it?

3.What's the result when you run "find / -inum 1212897" on your end?

Besides, you have submitted a support ticket before. We would also like to collect the ticket number via Private Message to help check it if it's convenient for you.

    Regards,

    Eli

    Hi,

    1. I got this warning after running the Disk Utility after login to my computer account. Same warning shows up if i boot to recovery mode on my mac (cmd + r). It's somehow related to OneDrive, because after a clean install of OS X (Mojave) i don't get any disk utility errors but after installing One Drive it shows up ( i've installed each program after a clean install and checked disk utility after each one).
    2. I didn't take a screenshot of that (now the object value have changed so can't repeat that one)
    3. Here is the result with "find / -inum 1212897" on your end? (screenshots)
