Ok, I need to update what I said previously . . . My computer would not run Microsoft Office 2010 again.  I have spent hours trying to find a solution.  I ran across this website:  https://msfn.org/board/topic/177946-beware-of-office-2010-updates/?page=7  .  So, on that site "Mathwiz" said this:  "Two new Office 2010 updates today.

4462223 replaces previously released security update 4462174. Naturally it updates MSO.DLL so I was suspicious and didn't install it."   So, I REMOVED 4462223 AND IT WORKED.  Hopefully this will save you time, maybe it will work for you if nothing else works.  Hope that helps!

BryanScottbds - Excellent answer and another thing I find is happening. If another KB comes in related to the Japanese calendar situation, it will just stop it again. I had to delete more than just 4462174 as well. But I turned off autoupdates for MS Office. What I found interesting, if we can call it that, is that 4462174 was listed as a security update, not a Japanese calendar update so I was surprised it was interfering. I initially deleted all the Japanese calendar updates cause MS et al admitted that was the issue but obviously not solely. So yes, continue deleting 446xxxx updates till it starts working. And then figure out another way to keep it secure. What I do is have two accounts [My Name] Admin and [My Name] User. I log in each day as User which has no admin rights - no new software or .exes can execute. I log in as Admin if and when I need to make changes like deleting updates. Much safer to go onto the Internet as a User account with no admin rights.

Ok, I don't think I've ever posted on community forums like this before, but I thought that I ought to in order to help everybody else out who's been helping me thru this thread.  The problem happened for me a long time ago.  I deleted KB 4462157 about maybe 6 months ago(??? I don't know, time escapes me :) ) and MS Office started working again for me, and I had to repeatedly do this on occasion. Eventually I didn't have to.  Then the problem started again.  So, then I deleted KB4462174, and it worked.  But the same process occurred [MS Office started working again for me, and I had to repeatedly do this on occasion].  Today, the problem occurred again, and I could not find KB#####57 or -74 (or -14 for that matter).  So, I thought I would try deleting some of these other KB's in the thread.  First (I think) I deleted KB4461617.  It didn't work.  So then I deleted KB4461625, and now it works.  I just thought I would share this for anybody else who is having the problem.  Now, I'm posting this thread after it just having started working a few minutes ago, so tomorrow I may have the same problem again.  But I wanted to post this now and hopefully this will help you.

At least in my computer, I went to add or remove programs and there was a check box at the top that said "Show updates". So indented under my MS Office program all the updates were listed with the KB numbers. I found this by Googling how ti find updates in windows xp.
