I use microsoft one and i noticed the changes were not being saved online. So i did a save as version on my desktop and renamed it and it still did not save! I have no idea where to locate the changes I have made these past 24 hours. I look at recent docs and there are zero changes to my document showing for yesterday even though I was editing all day. I have no clue why my documents aren't saving and I need to find the document i lost!

    Hello again,

I thought I'd just post again here since the original thread that I opened has been thoughtfully locked by Microsoft without a resolution, or even acknowledgement that there is a problem. Here

I thought this problem had reduced but we've been getting sporadic cases and they seem to be increasing again. I've had two just this morning, one a PC running Word, another a Mac, which points directly to Office architecture, not Windows, causing the problem.

Microsoft seem to be burying their heads over this problem, not even acknowledging there is a problem. Well, I've just been dealing with a user who lost a thousand words of work from an essay that is due in this week which is a major part of their final year's degree work. Perhaps Microsoft could publish some advise on how to deal with users who are tired, stressed, angry and almost in tears because their grades/futures are being jeopardised?

Before the same questions get asked again:

    1. No, it was not saving to OneDrive. It was on the user's network drive.
    2. No the user did not exit without saving, and if they did since we have the 'backup copy if user exits' option set there should be a saved copy.
    3. No, there are no auto recovery files.
    4. No, there are no versions.
    5. Yes, we have tested the auto recovery works.
    6. Yes, we have tested the create backup on exit works.
    7. Like every other case, the users say they clicked on the 'Save' icon periodically.
    8. Like in every other case, the timestamp on the file shows the last modified date and time as at least 2 days ago.
    9. In all cases these are existing files.

I am having the same problems.  I have lost hundreds of dollars because I attached a Word doc bid for a customer with all my edits and revised prices (he added on to the original project) not showing up.  Lately, I am paranoid to use Word and send emails with it attached.  I have lost dozens of hours of editing and additions on other documents lately also.

My wife is a first-semester law school student student. She's been using Microsoft Word 2016 pretty heavily this last semester (much more so than either of us did before now). On three different occasions, she has observed this exact issue (twice on one document and once on another). She saves documents regularly, doesn't close without saving them, and knows the difference between Save and Save As. Every time this has happened, it's just been one day worth of work. The misbehavior that appears to be happening is that if Microsoft Word occasionally rolls back all saves that happen on a document during a session of it being open. She's going to try periodically closing documents throughout the day instead of leaving them open to see if that can curb the data loss. We really need a patch for this though. This is an awful behavior.

This is a long thread so I apologize if this is something that has been covered already.

Is this a document opened directly from an email?

Thanks for your mail. I appreciate it.

I've tried to fix it the way you discribed, but it did not work. I think the data are overwritten already.

I just have to accept it, i guess...

Thank you for the information you provided. For us to further isolate your concern, I suggest that you try to use the Word application on the device you used when you edited the file. After opening the application, click File > at the bottom part of the screen, you will see the Recover Unsaved Documents > click the option and see if the files are visible.

You can also try opening the File Explorer > search for ".asd". The extension will provide you all the unsaved documents on File Explorer.

Please keep us updated for us to provide more help.
