The problem occurs under any front and any zoom I am using.
I just updated Office 365 to the latest version (1701) before posting this question and the problem still remains

Has any more work been done to see about a solution for this. This exact scenario has started happening to me just in the last 2 weeks. It is also affecting another person at my workplace as well. We both use Surface Pro's/Win 10/and Office 2016.
This must have been fixed for the large corporate accounts since they have thousands of users. What's the problem getting a solution to those individuals PAYING for your product???
This problem would have brought the executives and their staff I supported to a crawl! Though by now, they are probably all on Apple products as a result....
Sadly, that may be the next step for many others too.
I had a software update installed that seems to solve the problem somewhat. Subsequently I have got the Surface Pro replaced by a Surface Book 2 and I think the new computer doesn't have the issue.
I have the same issue. Fujitsu laptop, docked with 24" screen. I read this with a heavy heart seeing "upgrade", "reinstall" etc With no disrespect to the support people involved have you ANY idea of how much effort is involved in doing so?
For me it is completely replicable - Italic on, cursor disappears, italic off it works. 100% repeatable so 30+ years in the IT trade tells me that means it is 100% solvable if the issue is raised with the right people.
I have joined this thread, not to moan, but to be informed if a fix is delivered.
In the meantime I am forced to remove all italic text from the documents I am using and considering we have used red italic text to provide instructions how to complete our documents, that's a LOT of work.
Probably not relevant, but Microsoft does not recommend the use of 64-bit Office unless you have a specific need for, say, very large spreadsheets in Excel. Otherwise, the 32-bit version is recommended, even on 64-bit Windows.
