Excel 2016 will not open file from file explorer

I cannot get Excel 2016 to open and run a file by clicking on the file from File Explorer. Is there a bug?

The issue got solved by an online repair from the Programs and Features in the Control Panel.

    Same issue here. Files open from within Excel but not from file explorer.

    Quick repair from control panel / Programs worked ...

    Try this:

    Open Excel w/o any files --> Choose Settings --> Trust center --> Trusted location.

    Here you can add all your trusted places where Excel can open its files from Explorer.

    It works very well.

    Open Excel w/o any files --> Choose Settings --> Trust center --> Trusted location.

    Here you can add all your trusted places where Excel can open its files from Explorer.

    It works very well.
