I cannot get Excel 2016 to open and run a file by clicking on the file from File Explorer. Is there a bug?

The issue got solved by an online repair from the Programs and Features in the Control Panel.

This worked for me, having been unable to open Office files direct from Explorer. But it involved a full re-install of all the Office programmes, which took about 1.5 hours. So be prepared for this. And obviously you can't use any of the programmes while it's in process.
I am having this issue only with excel I have tried all the fixes with no luck..... sort of defeats the purpose of the 365 subscription can Microsoft send me a solution ?

Nearly exactly a year later from this link being posted, and I encountered the exact same problem. I followed the repair instructions provided in the link and so far, so good. After attempting to open a file from Explorer, Excel launches along with opening the file, though [as if this was a first-time install] I'm prompted to enter the email associated with the account (or a phone # or a product key). Doing so re-adds the computer to my account.
