PowerPoint Mac 2016: The image part with relationship ID rId2 was not found in the file.

AAHHH! I just upgraded to PowerPoint for Mac, Office 2016, and I'm getting this same error. I spent a whole week on a presentation that I'm doing to tomorrow and almost all of my images have disappeared. THIS IS TERRIBLE! I'm not sure what I'm going to do. 

'The image part with relationship ID rId2 was not found in the file'

Is there a fix for this?? Preferably before tomorrow morning? These are all images that I either created or pulled as screen shots. (All jpegs.) 

PLEASE HELP!

    Karim is correct. Installing updates should correct the problem immediately for you.

    Make sure your Mac has a working internet connection before checking for updates. Install Mac OS X updates followed by Office updates.

    Mac OS X updates:

    To get Mac OS updates, go to the App store on your dock, and then click the Updates button to reveal available updates.

    Office Updates

    To get the update:

    1. Open any Office application:
    2. Make sure your Mac has a working internet connection
    3. Go to the Help menu and choose Check for Updates
    4. Let AutoUpdate check for and install updates
    5. Restart your Mac

    Same happened to me to day after hours of work (December 12th). I have the latest version of ppt software running on Sierra. Despite the problem being supposedly fixed it has not been. This is a total disaster - not just for this presentation but for every subsequent one I have to do, unsure whether many many hours of work could be lost without warning and without a safe way to prevent it happening other than using Keynote.

    I truly despair of Microsoft. This is a public relations disaster. Do you think Steve Jobs would have tolerated rank incompetence like this?

    Fix it. And fix it properly. And do it now !

    I noticed someone's install was out of date and let them know last July, which was two months before the article you refer to was written. The person I gave the advice to did not have up to date software when I provided that advice. Having the latest update is still a good idea even now, although the specific problem discussed in this Q&A thread remains unresolved as of today.

    Your link is the authoritative source as to when the image problem will be fixed.

    FYI, there IS an open issue at Microsoft about this: https://support.office.com/en-us/article/You-encounter-broken-images-and-an-rld2-or-rld3-error-ea7ea8cb-168e-4f25-acad-3a9e08fe09e9

    And the issue is specific to Power Point for Mac.

    So all the "MVPs" might want to stop telling people to update their already up-to-date version. Maybe instead ask Microsoft what the status of the fix is?
